Hummingbird Feeders Can Provide eDNA for Detection of Nectar‐Feeding Bats
Environmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 1, January–February 2026.This study monitors nectar‐feeding bats (Leptonycteris nivalis, Leptonycteris yerbabuenae, and Choeronycteris mexicana) through eDNA swabs of hummingbird feeders collected by citizen scientists. Using novel qPCR assays, we successfully detected L. yerbabuenae and C. mexicana in a grand majority of samples. Previously only known to occur in the U.S.

Environmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 1, January–February 2026.We collected environmental DNA (eDNA) from river and stream water samples and processed it through DNA extraction, amplification and metabarcoding. Species were identified from sequence data and compared with camera trapping data to evaluate the effectiveness of eDNA for monitoring wild mammals in north‐western Bhutan.
