The Hartmann procedure

open access: yesJournal of British Surgery, 1982
Abstract During a 10-year period, 59 patients had a Hartmann operation for diverticular disease (n = 19), carcinoma (n = 21), anastomotic disruption (n = 5), injury (n = 3) and various other conditions (n = 11). Twenty-two patients (37·3 per cent) died postoperatively. Wound infection or wound dehiscence occurred in 26 patients.

Numerical Simulation of MHD Natural Convection and Entropy Generation in Semicircular Cavity Based on LBM

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
To study the natural convection and entropy generation of a semicircular cavity containing a heat source under the magnetic field, based on the single-phase lattice Boltzmann method, a closed cavity model with a heat source in the upper semicircular ...

Optical measurements of phase steps in segmented mirrors - fundamental precision limits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Phase steps are an important type of wavefront aberrations generated by large telescopes with segmented mirrors. In a closed-loop correction cycle these phase steps have to be measured with the highest possible precision using natural reference stars ...

Efficacy and Safety of Laparoscopic Hartmann Colostomy Reversal [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Coloproctology, 2018
Purpose Hartmann operation is widely recognized as a useful procedure, especially in emergencies involving the rectosigmoid colon. One of the surgeon’s foremost concerns after Hartmann operation is future colostomy reversal, as colostomy reversal after a

Effect of magnetic field on the steady nanofluid flow past obstacle

open access: yesФізика і хімія твердого тіла, 2021
The fluid flow and heat transfer of a nanofluid past a circular cylinder in a rectangular duct under a strong transverse magnetic field is studied numerically using a quasitwo-dimensional model.

Fibers of flat morphisms and Weierstrass preparation theorem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We characterize flat extensions of commutative rings satisfying the Weierstrass preparation theorem. Using this characterization we prove a variant of the Weierstrass preparation theorem for rings of functions on a normal curve over a complete local ...

Laparoscopic peritoneal lavage. Our experience and review of the literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
NTRODUCTION: Over the years various therapeutic techniques for diverticulitis have been developed. Laparoscopic peritoneal lavage (LPL) appears to be a safe and useful treatment, and it could be an effective alternative to colonic resection in emergency

Effects of Residence Time, Auto-Fertility and Pollinator Dependence on Reproductive Output and Spread of Alien and Native Asteraceae

open access: yesPlants, 2019
Alien plants benefit from auto-fertility to spread over areas where the lack of co-evolved mutualists would otherwise limit invasion success. However, the widespread generalists among mutualists and their large geographical ranges allow alien plants to ...

Linear stability of buoyant convective flow in a vertical channel with internal heat sources and a transverse magnetic field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Linear stability of buoyant convective flow of an electrically conducting fluid in a vertical channel owing to internal heat sources has been studied. The flow takes place in a transverse, horizontal magnetic field.
