Magnetohydrodynamic stability thresholds as a function of Hartmann number and pinch ratio

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1992
The linear instabilities of an incompressible, uniform-density magnetofluid are considered in the periodic straight cylinder approximation. Spatially-dependent resistivity and viscosity profiles are regarded as fixed, but their magnitudes and the magnitudes of the currents driven in the plasma are not.

Duct flow with a transverse magnetic field at high Hartmann numbers

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2001
AbstractFinite element methods can be used for determining the flow in a straight channel under a variety of wall conductivity conditions when a uniform magnetic field is imposed perpendicular to the flow direction. At high Hartmann numbers oscillatory solutions are found unless sufficient points are placed within the Hartmann layers.

A lower bound on Hartmann number for relaxed plasmas described by Taylor’s principle

The European Physical Journal D, 2009
A lower bound on Hartmann number for relaxed plasmas described by Taylor’s principle of minimum magnetic energy with fixed magnetic helicity is found analytically starting from first principles. Spontaneous filamentation occurs if the Hartmann number is below threshold. Comparison with both experiments and numerical computations is presented.

Hartmann, Lundquist, and Reynolds: the role of dimensionless numbers in nonlinear magnetofluid behavior

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1993
Despite its limitations, magnetohydrodynamic theory remains the best possibility for a predictive framework for the large-scale dynamics of a magnetized plasma. The mathematical structure is very similar to that for Navier-Stokes fluids, and indeed contains fluid dynamics as a special case.

Effect of Hartmann Number on MHD-Stokes Flow in a Lid-Driven Cavity

2021
Two-dimensional (2D) steady, incompressible, and electrically conductive Stokes flow in a rectangularly confinedregion with lid-driven is considered. After the governing equations of the flow in the region are obtained in the streamfunction/vorticity formulation, the finite difference method is used for the solution.
