Advances in Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers for Intelligent Robotics and Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) integrate molecular anisotropy with electrical functionality to enable programmable actuation and reconfigurable electronics. This review classifies eLCEs into robotic actuators and adaptive electronics, summarizes key actuation mechanisms, and highlights fabrication strategies that bridge materials to ...

Understanding substitution impacts of harvested wood and processing residues to mitigate climate change: A case of Chattogram, Bangladesh

open access: yesCleaner and Responsible Consumption
In Bangladesh, the role of harvested wood (e.g. wood products and associated processing residues) to mitigate climate change is less known and often ignored. This study aims to understand the substitution impacts of harvested wood products and associated

Climate change mitigation in Canada’s forest sector: a spatially explicit case study for two regions

open access: yesCarbon Balance and Management, 2018
Background We determine the potential of forests and the forest sector to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by changes in management practices and wood use for two regions within Canada’s managed forest from 2018 to 2050.

Climate Change Threatens Micronutrient Density of European Winter Wheat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micronutrients are vital for human health. Wheat is a major staple crop and a significant source of minerals and B‐vitamins. The impact of climate change on their content remains largely unknown. We evaluated micronutrient levels in European winter wheat grown under historical and projected climate conditions. Our findings indicate that future climates

Evaluation of Wood Quality Traits in Salix viminalis Useful for Biofuels: Characterization and Method Development

open access: yes, 2021
Salix (willow) is a well-known coppice plant that has been used as a source for bioenergy for decades. With recent developments in changing from a fossil-based to a circular bioeconomy, greater interest has been orientated towards willow as a potential ...

Unraveling the Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Spontaneous Multipolar Mitosis Through CIN‐seq

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multipolar mitosis, a hallmark of chromosomal instability (CIN), drives tumor heterogeneity but is challenging to study in live cells. Using CIN‐seq, a single‐cell multiomics method, we profiled rare CIN events and identified mechanisms associated with viable multipolar mitosis, including PTEN attenuation, Rho GTPase‐driven cytokinesis failure, and ...

Adipocyte‐Derived Leptolin Enhances Energy Expenditure and Prevents Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified a novel adipokine, which we named leptolin. In humans, leptolin levels in white adipose tissue were positively correlated with exercise and negatively associated with body mass index. We observed elevated leptolin in serum from athletes and lower leptolin in serum from obese individuals.

Setting priorities for land management to mitigate climate change

open access: yesCarbon Balance and Management, 2012
Background No consensus has been reached how to measure the effectiveness of climate change mitigation in the land-use sector and how to prioritize land use accordingly. We used the long-term cumulative and average sectorial C stocks in biomass, soil and

Methods for automatic grading of saw logs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The aim of log grading for pricing is to apply an economic value based on volume and log grade. However, unlike many other commodities logs are hard to characterize into different grades.
