Malpighian tubules in harvestmen

Protoplasma, 2021
In arachnids, the Malpighian tubules (MTs), coxal glands and stercoral pockets are capable of collecting and removing excreta from the body. The presence of the MTs among Opiliones was evidenced for the first time in Amilenus aurantiacus in 2015. Individuals undergo a winter diapause subterranean habitats.

Harvestmen (Arachnida: Opiliones) in Eocene Rovno amber (Ukraine)

Zootaxa, 2021
Six species of harvestman (Arachnida: Opiliones) are documented from the Eocene Rovno amber in Ukraine. From the suborder Eupnoi we record Caddo dentipalpus (C. L. Koch & Berendt, 1854) (Caddidae), Amilenus deltshevi Dunlop & Mitov, 2009 (Phalangiidae) and Dicranopalpus ramiger (C. L. Koch & Berendt, 1854) (family incertae sedis).

Evolutionary Biology of Harvestmen (Arachnida, Opiliones)

Annual Review of Entomology, 2015
Opiliones are one of the largest arachnid orders, with more than 6,500 species in 50 families. Many of these families have been erected or reorganized in the last few years since the publication of The Biology of Opiliones. Recent years have also seen an explosion in phylogenetic work on Opiliones, as well as in studies using Opiliones as test cases to

Predation among armored arachnids: Bothriurus bonariensis (Scorpions, Bothriuridae) versus four species of harvestmen (Harvestmen, Gonyleptidae)

Behavioural Processes, 2015
Natural selection shapes prey-predator relationships and their behavioral adaptations, which seek to maximize capture success in the predator and avoidance in the prey. We tested the ability of adults of the scorpion Bothriurus bonariensis (Bothriuridae) to prey on synchronous and sympatric adults harvestmen of Acanthopachylus aculeatus, Discocyrtus ...

Stridulation by cosmetid harvestmen (Arachnida: Opiliones)

The Journal of Arachnology, 2019
Stridulatory organs have not been previously investigated for harvestmen in the family Cosmetidae. During a field study, we observed the infrequent production of vibrations by adult Cynorta marginalis Banks, 1909. Using SEM, we examined the surfaces of several appendages for potential stridulatory organs. Our observations indicate that C.

Nephrocytes of harvestmen, Leiobunum limbatum and L. rotundum

Tissue and Cell, 1991
Nephrocytes are said to be able to take up substances from the hemolymph. In Opiliones, which were examined electron microscopically three different types of nephrocytes were found. Numerous large nephrocytes lie clustered between the muscles in the anterior region of the body.

Nematode parasitism of harvestmen (Opiliones: Arachnida)

Nematology, 2000
AbstractNew records of nematode parasitism of harvestmen (Opiliones: Arachnida) are reported and a list of all published records of nematode parasitism of these arachnids is presented. Nomenclatorial problems of early mermithid citations are discussed and the possible type of life cycle (indirect) is considered in light of what appears to be a type of ...
