Intertidal oyster reef elevation restoration: using a durable substrate on Lone Cabbage Reef, Florida, United States

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Oyster reef restoration has expanded in the Gulf of Mexico, yet many large‐scale projects fail to sustain ecological or physical outcomes. A key challenge is maintaining vertical relief in dynamic estuarine settings, where low elevation and cultch degradation limit recruitment and reef persistence.

Restore little to improve much: the value of woody linear elements for ecological connectivity across agricultural landscapes

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Mediterranean Europe is facing significant pressures from agricultural intensification. The European Union (EU) Natura2000 network (N2K) seeks to mitigate habitat loss and fragmentation, but its effectiveness needs to be enhanced through Green Infrastructure (GI) to improve coherence between N2K patches.

The Drivers of Science Referenced in US EPA Regulatory Impact Analyses: Open Access, Professional Popularity, and Agency Involvement

open access: yesRegulation &Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We perform bibliometric analysis on documents for 255 Regulatory Impact Analyzes (RIAs) prepared by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from 1980 through 2024. Using a series of automated information extraction methods, we extract references from these documents and match them to bibliographic records.

Neoichnology and sediment distribution in tidal flats of the mud‐dominated mesotidal Mira River estuary (Portugal)

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Invertebrate burrow morphologies and distributions are presented for the tidal flats of the middle and lower reaches of the tide‐influenced (mesotidal), mud‐dominated Mira River estuary (SW Portugal) as an analogue for interpreting the ichnology of palaeoestuarine successions.

Finding the Words: How Does the Aging Brain Process Language? A Focused Review of Brain Connectivity and Compensatory Pathways

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract As people age, there is a natural decline in cognitive functioning and brain structure. However, the relationship between brain function and cognition in older adults is neither straightforward nor uniform. Instead, it is complex, influenced by multiple factors, and can vary considerably from one person to another.

Independent Effects of Age, Education, Verbal Working Memory, Motor Speed of Processing, Locality, and Morphosyntactic Category on Verb‐Related Morphosyntactic Production: Evidence From Healthy Aging

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the role of locality (a task/material‐related variable), demographic factors (age, education, and sex), cognitive capacities (verbal working memory [WM], verbal short‐term memory [STM], speed of processing [SOP], and inhibition), and morphosyntactic category (time reference and grammatical aspect) in verb‐related ...
