Self‐Soldering, Stretchable and Self‐Healing Liquid Metal Elastomer Interconnections for Soft Electronics Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A self‐healing and electrically conductive liquid metal elastomer enables robust self‐soldering of surface mount devices for soft electronics. Photothermally activated conductive pathways, strong pressure‐sensitive adhesion, and stable package‐integrated contacts provide high conductivity and extreme stretchability.

Hatching asynchrony vs. foraging efficiency: the response to food availability in specialist vs. generalist tit species

open access: yes, 2016
Breeding mistiming is increasingly frequent in several ecosystems in the face of current climate change. Species belonging to higher trophic levels must employ mechanisms to reduce it.

Coaxial Melt Electrowriting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Coaxial melt electrowriting is established to produce dual‐property microfibers with diameters spanning 1.6–29.2 µm. Stable coaxial laminar flow is preserved under electrohydrodynamic thinning, enabling controlled binary and gradient material switching within individual continuous fibers.

Transcriptome Sequencing Reveals Dynamic Gene-Expression Profiles During Early Embryonic Development of Sichuan Taimen (Hucho bleekeri)

open access: yesFishes
The Sichuan taimen (Hucho bleekeri) is a flagship species for the Yangtze River and is classified as critically endangered by the IUCN. Successful artificial breeding and conservation efforts are therefore essential for maintaining population stability ...

Multiphoton‐Printed Microrobotic Arrays Powered by Discrete, Monolithically Integrated Hydrogel Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Functional surfaces are investigated as a foundation for reconfigurable microscale systems with sensing and actuation capabilities. Advances in additive manufacturing enable our development of planar arrays of hybrid‐material, compliant microdevices that convert environmental stimuli into programmed motion and visual responses.

Natural variation in timing of egg hatching, response to water agitation, and bidirectional selection of early and late hatching strains of the malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae sensu lato

open access: yes
Background: Eggs of anopheline mosquitoes hatch within a few days of laying and require high levels of humidity to survive. Assessing natural variation in egg hatching and its environmental and genetic determinants in sibling species of the malaria ...

Detection of Protein–Protein Interactions in Escherichia coli With Single Molecule Sensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article describes a regulatory circuit in Escherichia coli able to detect protein–protein interactions with exquisite sensitivity. The interaction between two hybrid proteins fused to Bordetella pertussis adenylate cyclase and its activator calmodulin triggers a potent cyclic AMP signaling cascade.

Neural control of hatching: fate of the pattern generator for the leg movements of hatching in post-hatching chicks

open access: yes, 1984
Chicks from 0 to 61 days post-hatching were gently folded into the hatching position and placed in artificial glass eggs. Within 0 to 2 min they began to produce a behavior that qualitatively resembled normal hatching.

Investigation of the effects of in ovo taurine injection on hatching characteristics and stress reduction potential

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science
Background In ovo application is the process of administering some nutrients or components into the egg. The main purpose of this application is to ensure that some nutrients are provided to chicks with a short incubation period.
