Numerical studies of planar closed random walks

open access: yes, 2008
Lattice numerical simulations for planar closed random walks and their winding sectors are presented. The frontiers of the random walks and of their winding sectors have a Hausdorff dimension $d_H=4/3$.

SDFs from Unoriented Point Clouds using Neural Variational Heat Distances

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from unoriented point clouds. We first compute a small time step of heat flow (middle) and then use its gradient directions to solve for a neural SDF (right). Abstract We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from ...

Deep learning assisted high‐resolution microscopy image processing for phase segmentation in functional composite materials

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract In the domain of battery research, the processing of high‐resolution microscopy images is a challenging task, as it involves dealing with complex images and requires a prior understanding of the components involved. The utilisation of deep learning methodologies for image analysis has attracted considerable interest in recent years, with ...

ATP Release from Human Airway Epithelial Cells Exposed to Staphylococcus aureus Alpha-Toxin

open access: yesToxins, 2016
Airway epithelial cells reduce cytosolic ATP content in response to treatment with S. aureus alpha-toxin (hemolysin A, Hla). This study was undertaken to investigate whether this is due to attenuated ATP generation or to release of ATP from the cytosol ...

A Systematic Review on Applications of Artificial Intelligence for Obesity Prevention

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This systematic review examines the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in preventing obesity, addressing a critical public health issue that affects a substantial portion of the population. With obesity rates rising alarmingly, particularly in the United States, this review synthesizes findings from 46 studies published between 2008 ...

Team Cognition Research Is Transforming Cognitive Science

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract About 30 years ago, the Dynamical Hypothesis instigated a variety of insights and transformations in cognitive science. One of them was the simple observation that, quite unlike trial‐based tasks in a laboratory, natural ecologically valid behaviors almost never have context‐free starting points.

Revisiting (∞,2)${(\infty,2)}$‐naturality of the Yoneda embedding

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, EarlyView.
Abstract We show that the Yoneda embedding ‘is’ (∞,2)$(\infty,2)$‐natural with respect to the functoriality of presheaves via left Kan extension, refining the (∞,1)$(\infty,1)$‐categorical result proven independently by Haugseng–Hebestreit–Linskens–Nuiten and Ramzi, and answering a question of Ben‐Moshe.

Quantized Gromov–Hausdorff distance

open access: yesJournal of Functional Analysis, 2006
A quantized metric space is a matrix order unit space equipped with an operator space version of Rieffel's Lip-norm. We develop for quantized metric spaces an operator space version of quantum Gromov-Hausdorff distance. We show that two quantized metric spaces are completely isometric if and only if their quantized Gromov-Hausdorff distance is zero. We
