Anatomy of the haustorium of Jodina rhombifolia (Santalaceae)
Nordic Journal of Botany, 2004The structure of the haustorium of Jodina rhombifolia in material from Argentina was analysed. Self‐haustoria and interespeciñc haustoria, the latter on Celtis tala and Scutia buxifolia , were detected.

The structure and development of the haustorium in parasitic Scrophulariaceae*
Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 1975The structure and development of roots and haustoria in 37 species of parasitic Scrophulariaceae was studied using light microscopy. The mature haustorium consists of two regions: the swollen “body” and the parent root, which resembles non-haustorial roots in structure. The body arises from the parent root and is composed of an epidermis, cortex,

Phloem in the haustorium of Castilleja (Scrophulariaceae)
Canadian Journal of Botany, 1971This note documents for the first time the presence of phloem in the haustorium of Castilleja sulphurea Rydb. From electron microscope studies the phloem was found to occur in the internal portion of the endophyte and on the periphery adjacent to cortical cells of the host.

The Host-Haustorium Interface in Powdery Mildews
Australian Journal of Plant Physiology, 1989The powdery mildew fungi have proven to be a useful model system for studies of the host-parasite interface in biotrophic parasitism. Investigation of the interface has requrred the development of novel experimental approaches, for example the isolation of populations of haustoria in association with other interface components and the chemical and ...

EMBRYOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE ENDOSPERM HAUSTORIUM OF ARCEUTHOBIUM DOUGLASII
American Journal of Botany, 1965Arceuthobium douglasii develops a dome‐like structure, the ovarian papilla, in which 2 megasporocytes are formed. The papilla is not a true ovule, for no integuments are formed, and it is forced aside by the developing endosperm. Megasporocytes are differentiated in the spring, but meiosis does not occur until the following spring. A tetrasporic embryo

Permeability of the haustorium-host interface in powdery mildews
Physiological and Molecular Plant Pathology, 1987Abstract The extent to which uranyl ions and peroxidase permeated haustorial complexes isolated from Pisum sativum infected with Erysiphe pisi was determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Freshly isolated complexes were treated with uranyl acetate, either directly, or after treatment with cell wall degrading enzymes, or with Triton ...

Functional Structure of the Mature Haustorium
2013The morphology and functional anatomy of lateral and terminal haustoria are described in this chapter, with emphasis on the patterns of tissue connection with both the host and the parasite, while discussing the possible role of each tissue within the haustorium.

Haustorium Invasion into Host Tissues
2013The invasive phase of haustorium development starts when the young haustorium adheres to host roots by means of specialized attachment devices employing adhesive substances. A group of intrusive cells then enzymatically and mechanically penetrate host tissues.

Ultrastructure of the haustorium of Trenomyces histophthorus and adjacent host cells
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1982Abstract The haustorium of Trenomyces histophthorus (Ascomycetes, Laboulbeniales) appears to be enucleate and aseptate; its bulbs, isthmuses, and tubules contain abundant mitochondria and are often vacuolate. Although host cells around some bulbs appear to be unaffected, most host cells in contact with the haustorial tubules are in various stages ...
