Reviewing fast or slow: A theory of summary reversal in the judicial hierarchy
Abstract Appellate courts with discretionary dockets have multiple ways to review lower courts. We develop a formal model that evaluates the trade‐offs between “full review”—which features full briefing, oral arguments, and signed opinions—versus “quick review,” where a higher court can summarily reverse a lower court. We show that having the option of

Fulminant viral hepatitis occurs in a very small number of infected individuals. Until now, the basis for this phenotype has remained unknown. In this issue of JEM, Belkaya et al. (https://doi.org/10.1084/jem.20190669) identify a deletion in the IL18BP gene in a severely affected child that results in excessive natural killer cell activation and ...

In ANA‐positive patients with suspected autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), liver biopsy rarely altered therapeutic management when alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was below 101 U/L and cirrhosis was absent. These findings suggest that biopsy may be safely deferred in this low‐risk group.

Tracking the impact of bottom trawling on benthic habitat status
Abstract Bottom trawling is the most widespread physical disturbance to marine benthic habitats, yet broadscale assessments of its impact remain limited. We developed a quantitative framework to evaluate trawling effects on benthic habitats at broad spatial scales based on the sentinels of seabed (SoS) indicator.

Does Alignment in the Hindfoot Radiograph Influence Dynamic Foot-floor Pressures in Ankle and Tibiotalocalcaneal Fusion? [PDF]
Background: The Saltzman-el-Khoury hindfoot alignment view (HAV) is considered the gold standard for assessing the axis from hindfoot to tibia. However, it is unclear whether radiographic alignment influences dynamic load distribution during gait ...

Computational fluid dynamics challenges for hybrid air vehicle applications [PDF]
This paper begins by comparing turbulence models for the prediction of hybrid air vehicle (HAV) flows. A 6 : 1 prolate spheroid is employed for validation of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method.

Effects of the Invasive Round Goby on Swedish Recreational Fishing Values
ABSTRACT The round goby, an invasive fish from the Black and Caspian Seas, has spread to Swedish waters, threatening recreational fisheries. We modeled impacts on the future recreational fishery in Sweden using data from a recreational fishing survey, and estimated effects of the round goby on other fish species. Values attached to recreational fishing

Identification of Gastroenteric Viruses by Electron Microscopy Using Higher Order Spectral Features [PDF]
Background: Many paediatric illnesses are caused by viral agents, for example, acute gastroenteritis. Electron microscopy can provide images of viral particles and can be used to identify the agents.
