Hawaii deep water cable program : phase II-D, executive summary [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The Hawaii Deep Water Cable (HDWC) Program is a multi-year, multi-million dollar study of the feasibility of transmitting electricity via a submarine cable system from the Island of Hawaii (the "Big Island") to Maui and Oahu. The study is being funded by

3D Large‐Scale Subwavelength‐Resolution Sound Sheet Tomography Based on an Active and Programmable Circular Meta‐Array

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable 2048‐element circular ultrasound array combined with a compact acoustic lens produces a thin “sound sheet” over a large field of view, and records echoes with wide angular diversity across the ring aperture. Coherence‐enhanced beamforming converts full‐matrix data into high‐contrast tomographic slices, delivering near‐diffraction‐limited

Differential assimilation of inorganic carbon and leucine by Prochlorococcus in the oligotrophic North Pacific Subtropical Gyre

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
The light effect on photoheterotrophic processes in Prochlorococcus, and primary and bacterial productivity in the oligotrophic North Pacific Subtropical Gyre was investigated using 14C-bicarbonate and 3H-leucine.

Summary : Geothermal energy in Hawaii [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Drilling for geothermal energy in Hawaii started in the early 1960's on the Big Island. Four wells were drilled in the Puna region to depths of several hundred to a thousand feet; all were unsuccessful in locating geothermal steam.

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Printable Conductive Hydrogels for Electrochemical Biosensing and Soft Bioelectronic Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Flexible, conductive hydrogels that integrate printability, mechanical tunability, biocompatibility, and electronic performance remain challenging to achieve. Here, we develop 3D‐printable poly(ethylene glycol)–poly(pyrrole)‐ hydrogels with tissue‐like mechanics, high cytocompatibility, and robust electrochemical function.

Nerium oleander 'Hawaii': 'Hawaii' Oleander

open access: yesEDIS, 2014
Oleander is a wonderful easy-care, rounded shrub or small tree, with long, dark green leaves and an abundance of single or double, sometimes fragrant flowers. `Hawaii' has single salmon-pink flowers with yellow throats.
