De Rerum Natura: How Do Halide Perovskites Self‐Heal From Damage?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
How can lead‐halide‐perovskites self‐heal after damage from light, heat, mechanical strain, or radiation? We show that reversible chemical defects underly performance losses and recovery, highlighting the roles of halide and proton migration, redox‐driven reactions, and acid‐base equilibria.

Chromatic‐Invariant Photothermal Fabrics Enabled by Narrow‐Bandgap Organic Semiconductors for Wearable Solar Energy Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A chromatic‐invariant photothermal fabric is fabricated for outdoor activewear, realizing 4°C–8°C heating within 5 min under 1000 W m−2 illumination via NIR absorption, retaining high visible‐light reflectivity and original fabric functions, and achieving >95.3% sterilization in 20 min.

Beyond Earth: Resilience of Quasi‐2D Perovskite Solar Cells in Space

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In the article (DOI: 10.1002/adma.202520433), Christoph Putz and co‐workers demonstrate rigid quasi‐2D perovskite solar cells operating in low Earth orbit, delivering stable power for more than 100 days under real‐space conditions. In‐orbit performance is correlated with extensive ground‐based thermal and proton‐irradiation studies on rigid and ...

Hollow volcanic tumulus caves of Kilauea Caldera, Hawaii County, Hawaii [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 1998
In addition to lava tube caves with commonly noted features, sizable subcrustal spaces of several types exist on the floor of Kilauea Caldera. Most of these are formed by drainage of partially stabilized volcanic structures enlarged or formed by ...

Optical Manipulation of Multiferroic Phases in BiFeO3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
At the strain‐driven morphotropic phase boundary, optical control over the multiferroic rhombohedral and tetragonal phase mixture is demonstrated using above‐bandgap light illumination. The photoinduced charge carriers modify the electrostatic environment and induce the conversion into a single tetragonal phase.

Hanging on the line – on the need to assess the risk to global submarine telecommunications infrastructure – an example of the Hawaiian "bottleneck" and Australia [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2009
National economies are becoming increasingly dependent on the global telecommunications system – and in particular, its submarine cable infrastructure.

Optical Detection and Modeling of Lithium Deposition on Copper Current Collectors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding lithium (Li) deposition on copper (Cu) substrates is essential for improving the performance and lifetime of zero–excess lithium metal batteries. In this study, Li deposition was investigated under realistic coin–cell conditions using complementary scanning electron microscopy and laser scanning microscopy. A semi–automatic image

Attenuation of Influenza a Virus into Live Vaccines Through C‐End Degrons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Naturally occurring C‐end degrons are exploited to design proteolysis‐targeting live attenuated influenza vaccines. C‐end degron tagging of viral M1 protein promotes proteasome‐dependent degradation, resulting in robust attenuation in host cells while permitting scalable production in engineered cells.
