Hazards in determining whether a drug is hazardous
Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice, 2013The US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health list and evaluation criteria have provided an important foundation to help institutions identify and create a list of hazardous formulary drugs. However, further guiding principles were needed to make the adoption feasible at our organization.

The Regulation of Hazards and Hazardous Behaviors
Health Education Monographs, 1978Risks to individuals engaged in "high risk" behaviors may be present because of the individual's own actions, as in the case of smoking. Alter natively, the risks may be present either because of factors in the envi ronment such as carcinogens, or because of the causal actions ofothers, such as pollution by industries.

Researchers investigated the risk of colorectal cancer after screening with flexible sigmoidoscopy. A randomised controlled study was undertaken in Norway with a population based sample. The intervention consisted of once only flexible sigmoidoscopy screening with or without a single round of faecal occult blood testing.

During the past quarter century the hazards of industry, transportation, mining and construction have been recognized; the economic value of safety has become clearly apparent and measures have been adopted to insure its promotion. For agriculture, because of its primarily individualistic character, there has been no such recognition or supervision ...

The recent introduction of nuclear active materials and their rapidly expanding use in scientific and technical fields have revived and sharpened interest in the pathogenic properties of all types of short-wave-length photon energy. While much work has been done on exposures and safe practices in the use of nuclear reactive materials, very little ...

Rockfalls are a type of fast mass movement common in mountain areas worldwide triggered. Natural triggers of rockfalls comprise earthquakes (Harp and Wilson 1995; Marzorati et al. 2002), freeze-thaw cycles of water (Gardner 1983; Matsuoka and Sakai 1999), melting of snow (Wieczorek and Jager 1996) or permafrost (Gruber et al. 2004), temperature changes

Hazard mitigation or mitigation hazard?
Environmental science and pollution research international, 2009Transgenic oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.; OSR) is estimated to be environmentally and economically problematic because volunteers and ferals occur frequently and because of its hybridisation potential with several wild and weedy species. A proposed mitigation strategy aims to reduce survival, in particular in conventional OSR crops, by coupling the ...

To the Editor.— In a recent article (236:2080-2081,1976), Kiraly and associates reported the hazards of phlebotomy in three polycythemic patients with cardiovascular disease. The implication was that in these acutely ill patients, the phlebotomies played either the primary or a significant contributing role in the outcome.
