A NOTE ON COMPARISONS OF k-OUT-OF-n SYSTEMS WITH RESPECT TO THE HAZARD AND REVERSED HAZARD RATE ORDERS

Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences, 2000
Let τk|n denote the lifetime of a k-out-of-n system constructed by using n components with independent (not necessarily identically distributed) lifetimes. It is shown that τk|n is smaller than τk−1|n−1 in the hazard rate order for any k and that τk|n−1 is smaller than τk|n in the reversed hazard rate order for any k.

Order statistics for some common hazard rate functions with an application

International Journal of Quality & Reliability Management, 2005
PurposeThe problem is to devise a life‐test acceptance procedure of an electrical item that has a Weibull failure distribution with an increasing hazard rate. The test‐bed facility has some constraints on the number of test samples and testing time.Design/methodology/approachThe life‐test plan is obtained using censoring of experiments and the ...

Monotone Markov processes with respect to the reversed hazard rate ordering: an application to reliability

Journal of Applied Probability, 2001
We consider a repairable system with a finite state space which evolves in time according to a Markov process as long as it is working. We assume that this system is getting worse and worse while running: if the up-states are ranked according to their degree of increasing degradation, this is expressed by the fact that the Markov process is assumed to ...

STOCHASTIC ARRANGEMENT INEQUALITIES FOR SOME SYSTEMS WITH HAZARD-RATE ORDERED COMPONENTS

International Journal of Reliability, Quality and Safety Engineering, 1994
Using an arrangement monotonicity property of the parametrized family of hazard rate ordered random variables, and a bivariate characterization of the hazard rate ordering, we obtain some new stochastic arrangement inequalities for the random variables that are hazard rate ordered.
