THE EFFECT OF HAZARDOUS WASTE SITES ON PROPERTY VALUES IN ZONES OF HIGH INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITY: A HEDONIC APPROACH [PDF]

open access: yes
Hedonic pricing methods typically employ a distance-to-site variable to measure variation in exposure to environmental disamenities. Some environmental disamenities, like hazardous waste sites, may be spatially correlated with another prominent feature ...

Selective Separation of the Rare Earth Elements Dysprosium and Neodymium via Tailoring Nanocellulose Chemical Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dicarboxylate‐modified anionic hairy cellulose nanocrystals exhibit a high selectivity for dysprosium(III) over neodymium(III). This selectivity arises from disordered dicarboxylate cellulose “hairs” that enable cooperative ionic coordination, hydrogen bonding, and strain‐induced conformational shrinkage.

Current status and risk assessment of perfluoroalkyl acids in surface water and sediments of the Yellow River in Shandong, China

open access: yesEmerging Contaminants
The Yellow River is the main source of water for urban and rural area and agricultural irrigation in northern China. Herein, the distribution and risk assessment of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) were investigated from the Yellow River in Shandong Province,

Dual‐Interface‐Dominant Cathode Architectures Enabling Fast Sulfur Redox and Stable Interfaces in All‐Solid‐State Li‐S Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An optimized carbon host nanostructure enables a dual‐interface‐dominant architecture in sulfur cathodes of solid‐state Li‐S batteries by selectively forming sulfur|carbon and sulfur|solid electrolyte interfaces. This tailored interfacial configuration accelerates sulfur redox kinetics by establishing enriched Li+/e– transport networks, while ...

Correcting correlation quality of portable X-ray fluorescence to better map heavy metal contamination by spatial co-kriging interpolation

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
High-precision mapping based on portable X-ray fluorescence (PXRF) data is currently being studied extensively; however, owing to poor correlation with soil metal concentration, the original PXRF data directly used for co-kriging interpolation (CKI ...

Hazardous Waste Reduction: Hexamethyldisiloxane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Waste Reduction: (1) Engineering problem - The manufacturing of a Silicone intermediate creates a flammable waste stream that must be disposed of at cost to QSI (0.48$/lb.). This stream contains two phases, which are mainly hexamethydisiloxane (HMDS) and

Superiorfund - An Answer to State Court Holdings That Government-Mandated Cleanup Costs Constitute Damages under Comprehensive General Liability Policies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
This comment analyzes the state high court decisions which seem to be reaching a consensus that the term damages in a Comprehensive General Liability policy encompasses the cost of cleaning up a hazardous waste site.

VIVID: A qPCR‐Based Platform for Sensitive and Quantitative In Vivo Tracking of Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces VIVID (Vesicle In Vivo Identification using DNA), a qPCR‐based platform that tracks PCR‐amplifiable DNA tags loaded in the EVs for accurate and quantifiable EV biodistribution in vivo. ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) represent promising carriers for nucleic acid therapeutics, offering advantages over synthetic nanoparticles ...
