“Bio‐based Plastic? Hm, I've Never Seen It!”—A mixed‐methods investigation into consumer preferences for different packaging material of fresh apples and tomatoes

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract Packaging of fresh fruits and vegetables is standard in many grocery stores. This mixed methods study aims to identify the role packaging plays in consumer choice and what packaging material consumers prefer. We analyzed data from quantitative stated preference experiments with a quota sample of 485 consumers living in Germany.

Clinical and Economic Insights Into Surgery for Colonic Diverticular Perforation: A Long‐Term Observational Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
The sigmoid colon was the most common perforation site among patients with colonic diverticular perforation. The patients' conditions, length of hospital stay, and hospitalization cost were significantly worse in left‐sided colon diverticular perforation than in right‐sided colon diverticular perforation. The clinical characteristics differed according

CO2 capture with hydrophobic halogen‐free natural deep eutectic solvents: Perturbed‐Chain Statistical Associating Fluid Theory modeling and molecular insights

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract This work systematically investigates CO2 capture with hydrophobic halogen‐free natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) as absorbents from both thermodynamic and molecular perspectives. A series of NADES consisting of decanoic acid, menthol, thymol, and lidocaine as hydrogen bond acceptors/donors (HBAs/HBDs) were prepared, and the CO2 ...

Protein aggregation and neurodegenerative disease: Structural outlook for the novel therapeutics

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Before the controversial approval of humanized monoclonal antibody lecanemab, which binds to the soluble amyloid‐β protofibrils, all the treatments available earlier, for Alzheimer's disease (AD) were symptomatic. The researchers are still struggling to find a breakthrough in AD therapeutic medicine, which is partially attributable to lack in ...

Horizontal Branch Stellar Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1995
I review aspects of the evolution of horizontal branch (HB) stars. I start by discussing current topics in the study of HB stellar evolution, including a brief review of the main determinants of the structure of low-mass core helium burning stars and of HB morphology.

Framework for assessing the risk to a field from fraudulent researchers: A case study of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesJournal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Concerns over research integrity are rising, with increasing attention to potential threats from untrustworthy authors. We established a framework to gauge the potential negative influence of researchers potentially engaged in misconduct. The field of Alzheimer's disease (AD) research has been a focal point of these worries. This study aims to

RR Lyrae stars in Galactic globular clusters. VI. The Period-Amplitude relation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We compare theory and observations for fundamental RR Lyrae in the solar neighborhood and in both Oosterhoff type I (OoI) and type II (OoII) Galactic globular clusters (GGCs). The distribution of cluster RR_ab in the PA_V plane depends not only on the metal abundance, but also on the cluster Horizontal Branch (HB) morphology.

Exploring quinolinone–chalcones: Synthesis, antioxidant potential and industrial applications in biofuels

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Biofuels undergo oxidative degradation, which reduces their storage stability and efficiency, hindering their large‐scale adoption and integration into the global energy matrix. To address this issue, we synthesized and characterized four novel quinolinone–chalcone derivatives (substituted with Br, Cl, OCH3 and OCH2CH3) as potential ...

The Determinants of Home Bias in Stock Portfolio: An Emerging and Developed Markets Study [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Economics and Financial Issues International Journal of Economics and Financial Issues, 2017, 7, pp.182 - 191, 2018
The objective of this paper is to measure the degree of home bias (HB) within holdings portfolio and to identify their determining factors. By following literature and an international capital asset pricing model, we have chosen quite a number of susceptible factors that impact HB.
