Hierarchical Twin Networks Enable Exceptional Strength and Fracture Toughness in Titanium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 46, 17 August 2026.
A commercial‐purity titanium with hierarchical ultrafine twin structures delivers an exceptional combination of fracture toughness (KJIc) of 187 MPa·m1/2 and specific yield strength of 140 MPa·cm3·g−1, in which pre‐engineered high‐density twin boundaries stimulate massive and dislocations to blunt crack tip.

Impact of Non‐Pharmaceutical Interventions Targeted at COVID‐19 Pandemic on Influenza Burden—A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 20, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Seasonal influenza imposes a substantial global health burden. The COVID‐19 pandemic, accompanied by widespread non‐pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), profoundly disrupted respiratory virus circulation, offering a unique opportunity to assess their broader epidemiological impact.

Dehydration‐driven organization of metabolites into NaDES‐like assemblies in orthodox seeds

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 3, Page 1172-1187, August 2026.
Summary Desiccation tolerance in plants, especially during orthodox seed dehydration, relies on compatible solute accumulation, complex molecular mechanisms, and intermolecular organizations that remain poorly understood. We combined metabolite profiling, mass spectrometry imaging, and electrospray and cold‐spray ionization mass spectrometry to ...

Achieving synergistic strength-ductility enhancement in a hierarchical hetero-lamellar AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy via facile hot-rolling strategy

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Eutectic high-entropy alloys (EHEAs) have attracted considerable interest due to their superior multifunctional performance. However, the inherent tendency of stress concentration at irregular phase boundaries frequently leads to premature fracture. This

Digital N‐of‐1 trials and their application in experimental physiology

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 8, Page 3525-3545, 1 August 2026.
Abstract Traditionally, studies in experimental physiology have been conducted in small groups of human participants, animal models or cell lines. Identifying optimal study designs that achieve sufficient power for drawing proper statistical inferences to detect group level effects with small sample sizes has been challenging. Moreover, average effects

Enhanced strength–ductility synergy of SiC particles reinforced aluminum matrix composite via dual configuration design of reinforcement and matrix

open access: yesMaterials & Design
To overcome the strength-ductility conflict in particle reinforced aluminum matrix composites (PRAMCs), a novel dual configuration strategy of microstructure was proposed in this work.

Overcoming the strength-ductility trade-off in additive manufacturing of titanium alloy by in situ fabrication of heterogeneous lamellar microstructure

open access: yesInternational Journal of Extreme Manufacturing
The strength-ductility synergy in heterogeneous materials offers significant advantages, though their scalable and controlled fabrication remains challenging. This study introduces an in situ fabrication strategy for heterogeneous lamellar titanium (HLT)
