Composition of HDL-2 and HDL-3 in familial hyperalphalipoproteinemia

Atherosclerosis, 1976
The content and percent composition of cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipids, and total proteins in HDL-2 and HDL-3 were quantitated in 5 women with familial hyperalphalipoproteinemia to determine if there are any distinctive characteristics of the high density lipoproteins in this heritable disorder.

HDL and immunomodulation: an emerging role of HDL against atherosclerosis

Immunology & Cell Biology, 2010
Changes in plasma lipoprotein profiles, particularly low levels of high‐density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, are associated with several inflammatory and immune diseases, including atherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis, implying the potential link between HDL and immunity. Accumulating evidence suggests that HDL possesses anti‐inflammatory effects

HDL – a difficult friend

Drug Discovery Today: Disease Mechanisms, 2008
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is an attractive target for antiatherogenic drug therapy because of the inverse association between HDL cholesterol and cardiovascular risk as well as many potentially antiatherogenic functions. However, controversial data from inborn errors of human HDL metabolism and genetic animal models as well as the frequent ...

The Origin and Fate of HDL [PDF]

open access: possible, 1977
High density lipoproteins are synthesized both in the liver and intestine. All apoproteins can be synthesized in the liver and intestine except the "C" apoproteins which could not be synthesized by the intestine. After injection of 125I-HDL its different apoproteins are removed from the circulation at a similar rate.

Improvement of HDL

2019
For more than three decades, lipid-lowering therapeutic modalities have focused on lowering LDL-cholesterol levels, as is the case in statin therapy. However, the focus of research in this area is currently shifting to enhancement of HDL-level both in quantity and quality.
