ABSTRACT Fires in recycling facilities are known for producing noxious fumes, having high heat release rates (HRRs), being difficult to extinguish and causing significant devastation to business operations. This research aims to provide experimental data and numerical models from which performance‐based designs can be developed for recycling facilities.

The Effect of PP and Peroxide on the Properties and Morphology of HDPE and HDPE/PP Blends
ABSTRACTPeroxide cross‐linked high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) and blends of HDPE and polypropylene (PP) were prepared by reactive extrusion. The effect of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and PP on the properties and morphology of HDPE and blends was studied.

Abstract BACKGROUND Accelerated weathering of limestone (AWL) using waste limestone (WL) for industrially relevant CO2 capture remains underexplored. Previous studies on potable water‐operated AWL have mainly examined idealised conditions, such as the use of high‐purity limestone or relatively low CO2 concentrations, which may not reflect selected ...

Abstract Background Bananas (Musa species) are an important staple food and cash crop in many parts of the world. The East African Highland cooking bananas form the backbone of food security for millions of Ugandans. The demand for high quality cooking bananas is thus closely linked to their sensory characteristics (which drive consumer preference) and

Preparation and Characterization of PMMA-HDPE and HDPE-PMMA Binary Polymer Blends
A comparison was made on the mechanical characteristics of binary blends polymethylmethacrylate/ high density polyethylene (PMMA-%HDPE) and vice versa. Analysis of morphology by SEM has been also accomplished. Preparation of polymer blends was performed using melt mixing method by an extruder.

Experimental Study on Polymer–Polymer Interfacial Thermal Resistance
Interfacial thermal resistance (ITR) in polymer–polymer interfaces is experimentally measured in this paper by the multi‐layered bulk sample approach. Based on numerical simulation and experimental verification, new techniques of layer‐overlapping samples are developed.

Harnessing microbial power to degrade hydrocarbon‐based plastics
Abstract The growing global plastic waste crisis demands the development of urgent, effective, and sustainable solutions. While conventional recycling methods present intrinsic limitations, microbial biodegradation of plastic waste has emerged as a promising alternative.

Modeling n‐Butyl Acrylate Polymerization using Complementary Modeling Techniques
Two different simulation methods are used for the radical polymerization of nBA: deterministic in Predici and stochastic with mcPolymer. It has been successfully implemented across a wide temperature range. It turns out that the partially different implementation of chain‐length‐dependent termination and β‐scission are important for obtaining ...
