Quality of life after high-dose-rate brachytherapy monotherapy for prostate cancer
Purpose There is little information in the literature on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) changes due to high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy monotherapy for prostate cancer. Materials and Methods We conducted a prospective study of HRQOL changes due

Physical and Dosimetric Aspects of the Iridium-Knife
The three-dimensional iridium-192 (192Ir) high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy manifests itself as a high-precision, hypofractionated, dose-escalating, minimally invasive method in the armamentarium of contemporary radiation oncology clinical applications.

MR-guided HDR prostate brachytherapy with teleoperated steerable needles
AbstractConformity of tumour volumes and dose plans in prostate brachytherapy (BT) can be constrained by unwanted needle deflections, needle access restrictions and visualisation limitations. This work validates the feasibility of teleoperated robotic control of an active steerable needle using magnetic resonance (MR) for guidance.

Dosimetric equivalence of nonstandard HDR brachytherapy catheter patterns [PDF]
Purpose: To determine whether alternative high dose rate prostate brachytherapy catheter patterns can result in similar or improved dose distributions while providing better access and reducing trauma. Materials and Methods: Standard prostate cancer high dose rate brachytherapy uses a regular grid of parallel needle positions to guide the catheter ...

Abstract Background TG‐43 formalism assumes homogeneous water media, potentially overlooking anatomical heterogeneities that affect dose accuracy. AcurosBV, a model‐based dose calculation algorithm, accounts for tissue and material heterogeneities. This study evaluates their dosimetric differences in high‐dose‐rate (HDR) brachytherapy using Harrison ...
