Comparison of lower body segment alignment of elite level hockey players to age-matched non-hockey players [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Master's Project (M.A.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2015Lower body overuse and insidious onset injuries are thought to have an underlying biomechanical component which may be predisposing to injury. The purpose of this study was to compare lower body

2D Magnetic and Topological Quantum Materials and Devices for Ultralow Power Spintronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
2D magnets and topological quantum materials enable ultralow‐power spintronics by combining robust magnetic order with symmetry‐protected, Berry‐curvature‐driven transport. Fundamentals of 2D anisotropy and spin‐orbit‐coupling induced band inversion are linked to scalable growth and vdW stacking.

Understanding the Role of Superhydrophobicity and Superhydrophilicity in Salt‐Spray Corrosion of Nanosecond Pulsed Laser‐Textured AA2024 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanosecond pulse laser texturing yields superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic AA2024 surfaces. Salt‐spray tests show that periodic superhydrophobic patterns suppress pitting, whereas superhydrophilic textures enhance it, linking laser‐induced morphology, wettability, and oxide chemistry to corrosion resistance.

Comparisons of heart rate variability responses to head-up tilt with and without abdominal and lower-extremity compression in healthy young individuals: a randomized crossover study

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Introduction: Abdominal and lower-extremity compression techniques can help reduce orthostatic heart rate increases. However, the effects of body compression on the cardiac autonomic systems, which control heart rate, remain unclear.

Gradient Compression Stockings may Prevent Recovery after Bed Rest Deconditioning [PDF]

open access: yes
Introduction: Astronauts continue to wear a compression garment during and immediately after landing to prevent orthostatic intolerance (OI). We recently developed a custom-fitted, 3-piece garment that consists of thigh-high stockings with biker-style ...

Interfacial and Crystallographic Regulation of Zinc Anode via Electric Double Layer Reconstruction for Highly Stable Zn Anode

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trace amounts of perfluoro‐1‐butanesulfonyl fluoride enables the regulation of the Zn/electrolyte interface by the generated zincophilic ─SO3H groups with long hydrophobic ─CF2 tails, which adsorb strongly onto the Zn surface, displace water molecules from the inner Helmholtz plane, and reconstruct the electrical double‐layer structure.

Red Mergers and the Assembly of Massive Elliptical Galaxies: the Fundamental Plane and its Projections

open access: yes, 2006
Several recent observations suggest that gas-poor (dissipationless) mergers of elliptical galaxies contribute significantly to the build-up of the massive end of the red sequence. We perform a series of major merger simulations to investigate the spatial

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.
