Endoscopic Camera Control by Head Movements for Thoracic Surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In current video-assisted thoracic surgery, the endoscopic camera is operated by an assistant of the surgeon, which has several disadvantages. This paper describes a system which enables the surgeon to control the endoscopic camera without the help of an

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Inverse Modelling to Obtain Head Movement Controller Signal [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Experimentally obtained dynamics of time-optimal, horizontal head rotations have previously been simulated by a sixth order, nonlinear model driven by rectangular control signals.

Tracking Motor Progression and Device‐Aided Therapy Eligibility in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterise the progression of motor symptoms and identify eligibility for device‐aided therapies in Parkinson's disease, using both the 5‐2‐1 criteria and a refined clinical definition, while examining differences across genetic subgroups.

Investigating visual prosody using articulography

open access: yesDigital Humanities in the Nordic and Baltic Countries Publications, 2019
In this paper we describe present work on multimodal prosody by means of simultaneous recordings of articulation and head movements. Earlier work has explored patterning, usage and machine-learning based detection of focal pitch accents, head beats and

Spatiotemporal symmetries in the disynaptic canal-neck projection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The vestibular system in almost all vertebrates, and in particular in humans, controls balance by employing a set of six semicircular canals, three in each inner ear, to detect angular accelerations of the head in three mutually orthogonal coordinate ...

Visual Recovery Reflects Cortical MeCP2 Sensitivity in Rett Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Rett syndrome (RTT) is a devastating neurodevelopmental disorder with developmental regression affecting motor, sensory, and cognitive functions. Sensory disruptions contribute to the complex behavioral and cognitive difficulties and represent an important target for therapeutic interventions.

Enhanced tracking system based on micro inertial measurements unit to measure sensorimotor responses in pigeons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The ability to orientate and navigate is critically important for the survival of all migratory birds and other animals. Progress in understanding the mechanisms underlying these capabilities and, in particular, the importance of a sensitivity to the ...

Prediction Model for Etiologic Differentiation of Isolated Vestibular Syndrome in Emergency Settings

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to develop and validate a predictive model for differentiating central from peripheral etiologies in patients with isolated vestibular syndrome (VS). Methods In this multicenter retrospective cohort study, 506 patients with isolated VS from five hospitals were divided into derivation (n = 301) and validation (n = 205)

3D face tracking and multi-scale, spatio-temporal analysis of linguistically significant facial expressions and head positions in ASL [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Essential grammatical information is conveyed in signed languages by clusters of events involving facial expressions and movements of the head and upper body. This poses a significant challenge for computer-based sign language recognition.
