Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Adapting the Dutch Reverse Diabetes2 Now program for Belgian primary care: a quasi-experimental study of effectiveness and transferability

open access: yesArchives of Public Health
Introduction The prevalence of diabetes in Belgium has steadily increased since 2001, reaching 6.9% in 2024, with type 2 diabetes (T2D) accounting for approximately 90% of cases.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Harmonizing health information systems with information systems in other social and economic sectors

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2005
Efforts to strengthen health information systems in low- and middle-income countries should include forging links with systems in other social and economic sectors.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Information security strategy in telemedicine and e-health systems: A case study of England’s shared electronic health record system

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University, 9/11/2010.Shared electronic health record (EHR) systems constitute an important Telemedicine and e-Health application. Successful implementation of shared

The influence of context and process when implementing e-health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background Investing in computer-based information systems is notoriously risky, since many systems fail to become routinely used as part of everyday working practices, yet there is clear evidence about the management practices which ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
