Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

CoViS: A Contactless Health Monitoring System for the Nursing Home

open access: yesIEEE Access
In a pandemic, the availability of health indicators among at-risk populations, such as the elderly, is crucial due to the disease’s rapid transmission and the need to act quickly to contain its evolution.

Education, Information, and Improved Health: Evidence from Breast Cancer Screening [PDF]

open access: yes
While it is well known that education strongly predicts health, less is known as to why. One reason might be that education improves health-care decision making.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Development of the oral, mental, and sexual reproductive health assessment tool for adolescents in Nigeria

open access: yesFrontiers in Oral Health
BackgroundAdolescence is a critical developmental stage where oral, mental, and sexual and reproductive health are closely interconnected. However, these domains are often assessed in isolation, creating a gap in holistic adolescent health understanding ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Pregnancies with ‘double-positive’ multiple marker screening results: a population-based study in Ontario, Canada

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth
Background Multiple marker screening is offered to pregnant individuals in many jurisdictions to screen for trisomies 21 and 18. On occasion, the result is ‘double-positive’—a screening result that is unexpectedly positive for both aneuploidies. Although
