Hearables: Feasibility and Validation of In-Ear Electrocardiogram

open access: yes2019 41st Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC), 2019
Out-of-clinic, continuous monitoring of vital signs is envisaged to become the backbone of future e-health. The emerging wrist worn devices have already proven to be a success in the measurement of pulse, however, a susceptibility to artefacts and missing data caused by regular motion in everyday activities, and the inability to continuously acquire ...

Hörgeräte, Hearables – nur Chancen oder auch Risiken?

open access: yes, 2020

On the hybrid localization in heterogeneous networks with lack of hearability

ICT 2013, 2013
This paper investigates and presents the results of hybrid localization techniques in heterogeneous networks with lack of hearability scenarios. In this contribution, we generalize the work presented in [1] and [2] by investigating the limits of their combination but also the limits of the minimal number of anchor nodes (AN) used for hybrid positioning.

A Cooperative Positioning Algorithm in Cellular Networks with Hearability Problem

IEEE Wireless Communications Letters, 2013
The letter presents a cooperative positioning algorithm in cellular networks. Due to hearability problem, the distance between a mobile terminal (MT) and only its home base station can be utilized for positioning. Moreover, several MTs belongs to 3 adjacent cells cooperate with their nearby MTs for positioning.

Hearable Heartbeats: Recording the Heart Rate from the Ear

2025 47th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBC)
A single physiological measurement reflects the momentary physiology under the given circumstances. Longitudinal measurements of a key physiological health indicator, such as heart rate, provide a more comprehensive picture of the physiological condition compared to a single measurement.

Musical Expressiveness as Hearability‐as‐Expression

2006
Abstract This essay defends the analysis that music is expressive of an emotion or other mental state insofar as it induces one to hear it as the personal or personlike expression of that mental state. Various competing theories of musical expressiveness, notably those of Malcolm Budd, Stephen Davies, Robert Stecker, and Roger Scruton ...

Surround Sound: Dickinson's Self and the Hearable

The Emily Dickinson Journal, 2005
The essay looks at significant revisions in one Dickinson poem, "Further in Summer than the Birds," and argues for a version of poetic selfhood fueled by humility, and devoted to anonymity, that also tests traditional conceptions of individuality and authorship.
