Partial hearing recovery after cochlear nerve surface transplantation of hair follicle‐derived neural crest stem cells in neural hearing loss rat

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study comprises three experimental parts. Part 1. Time‐course of ouabain‐induced hearing loss. Rats received ouabain (10 mM) via round window application. ABR/DPOAE tests and histological analyses were performed at 2, 7, and 30 days post‐treatment to characterize SGN and glial cell degeneration. Part 2.

INTRODUCTION OF THE NEWEST CLINICAL DIAGNOSTIC METHOD FOR THE STUDY OF CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS IN PATIENTS

open access: yes, 2023
Conductive hearing loss is a hearing loss due to a violation of the conduction of sound waves from the outside through the structures of the outer and middle ear to the sound-receiving apparatus.

A perspective from the Mesozoic: Evolutionary changes of the mammalian skull and their influence on feeding efficiency and high‐frequency hearing

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The complex evolutionary history behind modern mammalian chewing performance and hearing function is a result of several changes in the entire skeletomuscular system of the skull and lower jaw. Lately, exciting multifunctional 3D analytical methods and kinematic simulations of feeding functions in both modern and fossil mammals and their ...

Influence of Mild Conductive Hearing Loss on the Detection of DPOAEs and the Potential for DPOAE-based Quantification

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) allow for the objective assessment of peripheral auditory system function to the level of the outer hair cells and represent an indispensable part of the modern audiological test battery. Low-

Are there morpho‐acoustic patterns of adaptation in nonhuman primate ears? Testing the role of ecology and habitat in shaping ear morphology and function

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Analysis of the variation in the bony structures of the inner and middle ear provides critical insights into functional morphology, as well as adaptive morphology across primates. In this study, we investigated whether ear morphology patterns are related to the ecological characteristics of species and their habitats to test two acoustic ...

Rapid maxillary expansion and conductive hearing loss

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of rapid maxillary expansion (RME) on conductive hearing loss in 35 subjects (21 girls and 14 boys) with an average age of 14 years 6 months.

Statistical shape modeling of the human inner ear through micro‐computed tomography imaging

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
In this study, 54 cadaveric temporal bone specimens underwent high‐resolution micro‐CT imaging. Images were semi‐automatically segmented and converted to 3D surface mesh models for morphological measurement and analysis. Statistical shape models were created for the inner ear, cochlea, and vestibular system, as well as for sex‐ and side‐based subgroups.
