Spatial distribution of acoustic traits in bird assemblages along regional bioclimatic gradients

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 6, June 2026.
Environmental variation shapes acoustic interactions among birds, creating spatial structures in the sonic signature of local species assemblages. Exploring these patterns at regional scales can reveal processes that segregate acoustic strategies along environmental gradients.

Magnitude, Patterns and Factors Associated With Sensorineural Hearing Loss Among Hypertensive Adults at a Tertiary Hospital in Northern Tanzania

open access: yesEye &ENT Research, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 101-106, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Hearing loss affects 1.5 billion people globally, with sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) linked to hypertension. Hypertension affects 1.39 billion people worldwide and its prevalence is rising sharply in Sub‐Saharan Africa. While 12% of Tanzanian population has cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension and recent studies ...

Prediction of Electric Toothbrush Acoustic Comfort Using a Lightweight Dual‐Branch CNN With Psychoacoustic‐Spectral Cross‐Attention Fusion

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2026.
A lightweight dual‐branch neural network with cross‐attention fusion (LDCNN‐CF) integrates Mel‐spectrograms with psychoacoustic parameters to predict electric toothbrush acoustic comfort. The model achieves human‐like accuracy (MAE = 0.82, R2 = 0.84) with only 0.42 M parameters and identifies roughness as the dominant predictor of discomfort.

Advanced flexible brain computer interface materials: From development to application

open access: yesFlexMat, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 185-209, June 2026.
This review explores how novel materials coatings are advancing brain‐computer interface (BCI) technology. It describes how these materials help overcome key challenges in signal accuracy, biocompatibility, and device durability. The paper highlights BCI applications in medicine and entertainment, and discusses future trends that could transform human ...

Bilateral repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation modulates the hemispheric imbalance in major depressive disorder

open access: yesGeneral Psychiatry, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Major depressive disorder (MDD) is characterised by interhemispheric functional imbalance, yet the neuromodulatory mechanisms underlying its correction remain poorly understood. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has shown promise in restoring hemispheric balance, but evidence regarding its effects on alpha‐band ...
