Multimodal Soft Surgical Robots Enabled by Eco‐Degradable, Sterilizable Polymers and Transient Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A compostable PGS soft surgical robot with interchangeable modules integrates transient Mo tactile and Si thermal sensors for dual feedback. The device preserves its function after clinical‐grade sterilization, demonstrates stable actuation and cardiac tissue grasping with real‐time in vivo pulsatile monitoring, and biodegrades post‐use with soil‐safe,

Akt1-mediated CPR cooling protection targets regulators of metabolism, inflammation and contractile function in mouse cardiac arrest.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Therapeutic hypothermia initiated during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in pre-clinical studies appears to be highly protective against sudden cardiac arrest injury.

Near‐Infrared Light‐Driven Zn/Au Janus Micromotors for Multiplex SERS Detection of Anticancer Drugs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Zn/Au Janus micromotors, propelled by thermophoretic effects under NIR light, function as active SERS platforms for single and multiplex detection of anticancer drugs. Their dynamic motion enhances analyte exchange at the Au interface, reducing saturation and competitive adsorption, thereby improving sensitivity and extending the linear detection range.

Powering Nanocrystal‐Based Heat Engines With Light‐Emitting Metasurfaces That Influence Their Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurfaces and other structured photonic environments can dramatically modify the absorption and/or light emission of semiconductors. However, the consequences of these changes on the temperature of the system are not well understood. The authors address this problem for colloidal nanocrystals and leverage their findings to convert light into ...

Methods of Assessment and Clinical Relevance of QT Dynamics

open access: yes, 2005
The dependence on heart rate of the QT interval has been investigated for many years and several mathematical formulae have been proposed to describe the QT interval/heart rate (or QT interval/RR interval) relationship. While the most popular is Bazett’s

Effects of combined helium pre/post-conditioning on the brain and heart in a rat resuscitation model

open access: yes, 2017
BackgroundThe noble gas helium induces cardio- and neuroprotection by pre- and post-conditioning. We investigated the effects of helium pre- and post-conditioning on the brain and heart in a rat resuscitation model.

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

Deguelin attenuates reperfusion injury and improves outcome after orthotopic lung transplantation in the rat

open access: yes, 2012
The main goal of adequate organ preservation is to avoid further cellular metabolism during the phase of ischemia. However, modern preservation solutions do rarely achieve this target.

Mechanical and Electrical Phenotype of hiPSC‐Cardiomyocytes on Fibronectin‐Based Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce fibronectin‐based PEG hydrogels with controlled rigidity to enable the culture of iPSC‐derived cardiomyocytes. These substrates offer an alternative to the current culture of these cells on fibronectin‐coated glass, providing enhanced structural and functional behavior. The system provides a more physiologically relevant platform to assess

Glucose regulates the intrinsic inflammatory response of the heart to surgically induced hypothermic ischemic arrest and reperfusion

open access: yesPhysiological Genomics, 2017
We investigated the isolated working rat heart as a model to study early transcriptional remodeling induced in the setting of open heart surgery and stress hyperglycemia. Hearts of male Sprague Dawley rats were cold-arrested in Krebs-Henseleit buffer and subjected to 60 min normothermic reperfusion in the working mode with buffer supplemented with ...
