Profibrotic, Electrical, and Calcium-Handling Remodeling of the Atria in Heart Failure Patients With and Without Atrial Fibrillation [PDF]

open access: goldFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) are common cardiovascular diseases that often co-exist. Animal models have suggested complex AF-promoting atrial structural, electrical, and Ca2+-handling remodeling in the setting of HF, but data in human ...

Functional and Structural Differences in Atria Versus Ventricles in Teleost Hearts

open access: hybrid, 2012
Across vertebrates, the fish heart is structurally relatively simple. The heart of teleosts is unique in structure, composed of four chambers in series: venous sinus, atrium, ventricle and bulbus arteriosus. The two chambers acting as pumps are the atrium and ventricle, a simplified ver‐ sion of that seen in tetrapods.

Small Conductance Ca2 +-Activated K+ (SK) Channel mRNA Expression in Human Atrial and Ventricular Tissue: Comparison Between Donor, Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Failure Tissue

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
In search of more efficacious and safe pharmacological treatments for atrial fibrillation (AF), atria-selective antiarrhythmic agents have been promoted that target ion channels principally expressed in the atria.

Cardiac atrial masses after a heart transplant. An array of differential diagnoses

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Cardiología, 2022
Cardiac masses represent a heterogeneous group, including secondary malignancies as the most common ones, followed by primary tumors, vegetations, and thrombi.

Diabetes Alters the Expression and Translocation of the Insulin-Sensitive Glucose Transporters 4 and 8 in the Atria. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Although diabetes has been identified as a major risk factor for atrial fibrillation, little is known about glucose metabolism in the healthy and diabetic atria. Glucose transport into the cell, the rate-limiting step of glucose utilization, is regulated

Microscopic and submicroscopic structure of the heart atria and auricles in condition of the experimental thermal trauma

open access: yesBiointerface Research in Applied Chemistry, 2020
Burns is the damage of the skin or mucous membranes (often with underlying tissues), because of high-temperature influence (thermal burns), chemical, electrical, radiation, combined, thermochemical and electrothermal factors influence.
