A 72-year-old woman was admitted to our department for further investigation of a heart defect noted in transthoracic echocardiography performed in a district hospital. The patient complained of palpitations and moderately limited physical activity. On ECG, atrial fibrillation was recorded with a well-controlled ventricular rate.

6-NitroDopamine is an endogenous modulator of rat heart chronotropism.
Life Science, 20226-Nitrodopamine (6-ND) is released by rat vas deferens and exerts a potent contractile response that is antagonized by tricyclic antidepressants and α1-, β1- and β1/β2-adrenoceptor antagonists.

The role of the atria in congenital heart disease
Cardiology Clinics, 2002The atria play an important role in adult congenital heart disease. Atrial function is often altered due to longstanding pressure or volume overload. Cardiac surgery inflicts lasting damage to the atria, which leads to loss of atrial compliance. Both the history of atrial overload and the atrial scarring form substrates for atrial tachycardias.

Primary extramedullary plasmacytoma in the atria of the heart
Cardiovascular Pathology, 2001A rare case of primary extramedullary plasmacytoma of the heart is described. The large space-occupying tumor in the atrial wall and its associated significant pericardial effusion caused marked impairment of cardiovascular function. The diagnosis was made via intravenous biopsy.

Embolization from the Atria in Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease
JAMA, 1961One thousand autopsied cases were studied to determine the incidence of embolism from the atria in arteriosclerotic heart disease. In this study, it was found that 1 case of embolization occurred in a total of 52 patients with atrial fibrillation (2%), and 2 cases of embolization occurred in a total of 243 cases who were nonfibrillators (0.8%).

SummaryCatecholamines from heart atria and hypothalamus of the rabbit were extracted, separated chromatographically and estimated biologically. Noradrenaline from the brain, and total catecholamines from the heart, of the rat were also extracted and ...

BACKGROUND Of the five sodium channel subtypes expressed in cardiac tissues, the rat (rH1) and human (hH1) isoforms are thought to be the predominant subtypes on the basis of heterologous expression studies. In this study, subtype-specific antibodies and

Specialized tissues and preferential conduction in the atria of the heart
The American Journal of Cardiology, 1971Abstract Many of the widely prevalent concepts in clinical electrocardiography are based on the premise that the spread of electrical activity in the atria is radial, not following special pathways. This review questions that premise on the grounds of recent electrophysiologic, biochemical and anatomic studies that are more logically interpreted as ...

Morphology of the specialized conducting tissue in the atria of the equine heart
The Anatomical Record, 1967AbstractThe gross and microscopic anatomy of the sinus node (SN), atrioventricular node (AVN) and specialized fibers in the atrium were studied in 19 horses and eight mules. The SN is supplied with blood by a branch from the left circumflex artery which subdivides within the node.
