Effect of dehydroemetine on isolated preparations of rabbit and guinea-pig heart and atria

Life Sciences, 1971
Abstract Dehydroemetine in low concentrations decreases the rate and force of spontaneous contraction of the isolated rabbit and guinea-pig heart and atria. The maximal frequency at which the atria could follow electrical stimulation is decreased suggesting that the drug prolongs the effective refractory period of the myocardium.

The hemodynamic effect of slowing the heart rate by paired or coupled stimulation of the atria

American Heart Journal, 1967
Abstract The effect on cardiac output and arterial pressure of slowing the heart rate below the sinus rate by paired and coupled stimulation of the atria, and of increasing the heart rate above the sinus rate by single pacing of the atria, was tested in 11 patients.

Atrial fibrillation in heart failure: Current treatment of patients with remodeled atria

Current Heart Failure Reports, 2008
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and chronic heart failure (CHF) can be caused by each other, and therefore constitute a vicious circle. The prevalence of both conditions is about 1% in industrialized countries and increases with age. Although mortality is increased in heart failure, the additional prognostic relevance of AF in these patients is less clear. AF

Electrocardiographic behavior of recipient and donor atria after human heart transplantation

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1969
Abstract After human heart transplantation, separate donor and recipient P waves were seen in 7 of 10 patients, and P wave form was changed from the preoperative state. The recipients' P waves responded normally to various degrees of exercise and the Valsalva maneuver, whereas the donor complexes gave a response typical of denervation. The effects of

The influence of thyroid hormones on the growth of the atria and ventricles of the heart in immature rats

Journal of Endocrinology, 1994
Abstract The normal plasma concentrations of tri-iodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) increase approximately six- and fourfold respectively between the end of gestation and weaning in the rat. This early postnatal surge of thyroid hormones was experimentally modified to produce either a state of hypo- or hyperthyroidism.

Rates of synthesis of actomyosin in atria and ventricles of the perfused working rat heart

Cardiovascular Research, 1985
Actomyosin from hearts perfused in vitro with [U-14C] phenylalanine and the remaining plasma amino acids was purified by standard techniques. The rate of actomyosin synthesis was expressed relative to actomyosin protein, to total protein and to total RNA. The rate of atrial total protein synthesis was twice the ventricular rate correlating with the RNA/
