Derivative Complex Small Supernumerary Marker Chromosomes (sSMC) Involving Chromosomes 2 and 15—A Novel Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Small supernumerary marker chromosomes (sSMC) constitute a rare group of structural chromosomal abnormalities characterized by additional genetic material that cannot be identified by conventional banding cytogenetics. The incidence of sSMC is extremely rare, and most are expected to have no clinical phenotypic abnormalities.

A Rare Case of Dextrocardia With Atrioventricular Septal Defect and Situs Inversus in an 8‐Month‐Old Infant Complicated by Severe Acute Malnutrition

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT The key clinical message in this case report highlights the rare coexistence of situs inversus totalis, dextrocardia, atrioventricular septal defect, and severe acute malnutrition in an Ethiopian infant. It underscores the need for heightened awareness, timely diagnosis, and integrated management strategies for such complex congenital and ...

Percutaneous Closure of Perivalvular Leakage After Aortic Valve Replacement Using Preoperative 3D Printing Technology Guidance: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT We report a case of transcatheter paravalvular leak (PVL) closure assisted by three‐dimensional (3D) printing and intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) in a patient with complex valvular history. A 70‐year‐old male manifested acute exacerbation of dyspnea, accompanied by orthopnea and nocturnal paroxysmal respiratory distress.

Quadricuspid Aortic Valve With Severe Aortic Regurgitation

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Whenever a quadricuspid aortic valve (QAV) was present, it was historically only identified during open heart surgery. However, recent advances in transthoracic echocardiography have made it possible to detect QAV preoperatively. Further evaluation using transesophageal echocardiography or computed tomography before open surgery may help guide

Platypnea‐Orthodeoxia Syndrome Post‐Pneumonectomy: A Case of Right‐To‐Left Shunting and Successful PFO Closure

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Platypnea‐orthodeoxia syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by dyspnea (platypnea) and arterial desaturation (orthodeoxia) in the upright position, with symptom relief upon lying down. This syndrome is commonly associated with cardiac anomalies, particularly patent foramen ovale (PFO), where increased right atrial pressure facilitates ...
