Approach to a child with a heart murmur
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2004The vast majority of children with heart murmurs have an 'innocent' murmur. Differentiation of such murmurs from those due to structural cardiac disease, so called 'pathological' murmurs, is largely clinical. Pediatricians are capable of differentiating one from the other, provided a detailed evaluation is done.

When to call the cardiologist: treatment approaches to neonatal heart murmur.
Pediatric annals, 2013Moderate and severe forms of congenital heart disease (CHD) occur in about 6 per 1,000 live births. If tiny muscular ventricular septal defect (VSD) and bicuspid aortic valve as well as other lesions of a less serious nature are included, it is estimated

The Nurse Practitioner, 1981
In summary, location, change in intensity with position, timing and duration, quality, radiation, thrills, grading, and pulses and blood pressure should be kept in mind during a child health assessment. These guidelines will help to separate functional from pathologic murmurs, so that appropriate referrals can be made.

Heart sounds and murmurs in pregnancy
American Heart Journal, 1966Abstract Fifty primigravidas were examined monthly through pregnancy, and phonocardiograms were taken. During pregnancy, a loud, widely split first sound due to early closure of the mitral valve developed in 88 per cent. No changes in the second sound occurred, other than poor movement of the two elements in late pregnancy.

Bedside Differentiation of Heart Murmurs
Postgraduate Medicine, 1970How can innocent heart murmurs be differentiated from those of organic heart disease? A vexing question, but one that can sometimes be answered by determining the location and duration of the murmur and listening for changes in intensity with respiration, during a Valsalva maneuver, after a premature ventricular contraction, with postural changes, and ...
