ON A ROBUST ALGORITHM FOR HEART SOUND SEGMENTATION

Journal of Mechanics in Medicine and Biology, 2007
The detection of heart diseases from heart sound signals needs an efficient segmentation algorithm to properly identify the location of the first and second heart sounds. This in turn helps in characterizing murmurs present in the cardiac cycles and the pathological condition by providing an appropriate time reference.

The Analysis of the Anomaly Characteristic of Heart Sound Based on Heart Sounds Segmentation Algorithm

2012 International Conference on Computer Science and Service System, 2012
Taking into account that heart auscultation remains the dominant method for heart examination in the small health centers of the rural areas and generally in primary healthcare set-ups, the enhancement of this technique would aid significantly in the diagnosis of heart diseases.

Heart sounds classification using motif based segmentation

Proceedings of the 18th International Database Engineering & Applications Symposium on - IDEAS '14, 2014
In this paper we describe an algorithm for heart sound classification (classes Normal, Murmur and Extrasystole) based on the discretization of sound signals using the SAX (Symbolic Aggregate Approximation) representation. The general strategy is to automatically discover relevant top frequent motifs and relate them with the occurrence of systolic (S1 ...

Adaptive Sojourn Time HSMM for Heart Sound Segmentation

IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, 2019
Heart sounds are difficult to interpret due to events with very short temporal onset between them (tens of milliseconds) and dominant frequencies that are out of the human audible spectrum. Computer-assisted decision systems may help but they require robust signal processing algorithms.

Pediatric heart sound segmentation using Hidden Markov Model

2014 36th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2014
Recent advances in technology have enabled automatic cardiac auscultation using digital stethoscopes. This in turn creates the need for development of algorithms capable of automatic segmentation of heart sounds. Pediatric heart sound segmentation is a challenging task due to various confounding factors including the significant influence of ...

A Segmentation-Free Model for Heart Sound Feature Extraction

2015
Currently, the fatality of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) represents one of the global primary healthcare challenges and necessitates broader population checking for earlier intervention. The traditional auscultation is cost-effective and time-saving for broader population to diagnose CVDs early.

A hybrid algorithm for heart sounds segmentation based on phonocardiogram

Journal of Medical Engineering & Technology, 2019
For many years, heart function has been measured by the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal, while sounds produced in the heart can also contain information indicating normal or abnormal heart function. What has caused to restrict the use of the phonocardiography (PCG) signal was the lack of mastery of experts in the interpretation of these sounds, as well ...

Algorithm of heart sound segmentation and feature extraction

2013 6th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing (CISP), 2013
In this paper, an algorithm about heart sound signals segmentation was described, in which only heart sound signals were used. The algorithm was based on the normalized average Shannon energy of heart sound signals. 20 cases of normal and 20 cases of abnormal heart sound signals of heart valve disease selected randomly from the database of the ...

Heart sound segmentation using switching linear dynamical models

2017 IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP), 2017
Localization of exact positions of the fundamental heart sounds (FHS) is an essential step towards automatic analysis of heart sound phonocardiogram (PCG) recordings, the automatic segmentation allows for data-driven classification of heart pathological events. Current approach using probabilistic models such as hidden Markov models (HMMs) has improved

Segmentation of heart sounds using simplicity features and timing information

2008 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2008
Automatic analysis of heart sounds aid physicians in the diagnosis of abnormal heart valve conditions. Segmentation, i.e. identification of first (S1) and second (S2) heart sounds, is the first step in the automatic analysis. In this work, we have proposed a segmentation method which uses energy-based and simplicity-based features computed from multi ...
