This study provides a translational approach for linking neural activity to tactile deficits in autism. By combining psychophysics with cortical recordings in a mouse model of autism, we show that low signal‐to‐noise ratio in somatosensory neurons weakens population encoding of fine touch, impairing detection, decoding, and leading to perceptual ...

Restoring Iron Homeostasis via Smoothened Inhibition: A Novel Strategy Against Hearing Loss
. ABSTRACT Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) induced by noise or aminoglycoside antibiotics is a significant public health concern without any FDA‐approved pharmaceutical therapies. Dysregulation of iron homeostasis and its subsequently induced ferroptosis has increasingly been identified as a key mechanism underlying cochlear hair cell (HC) damage ...

How to Do Things with Words: Tolkien’s Theory of Fantasy in Practice [PDF]
After his St Andrews lecture on ‘Fairy Stories’ Tolkien projected his theory of sub-creation into his legendarium. In this projection the theory of what the human sub-creator does with thought and words became a model for what miraculous and magical ...

Dysregulation of the PATZ1/CTCF Balance Silences ZBTB20 to Drive Melanoma Progression
This study uncovers a new oncogenic mechanism in melanoma. The transcription factor PATZ1 competes with the architectural protein CTCF for DNA binding, thereby disrupting a specific chromatin loop and silencing the tumor suppressor ZBTB20. This event unleashes the pro‐tumorigenic PMEPA1‐p38‐STAT1 signaling axis, promoting cancer progression.

Multiscale analysis of heart sound signals in the wavelet domain for heart murmur detection
A heart murmur is an atypical sound produced by blood flow through the heart. It can indicate a serious heart condition, so detecting heart murmurs is critical for identifying and managing cardiovascular diseases. However, current methods for identifying

A dual‐targeting strategy to rejuvenate aged tendons. A reactive oxygen species (ROS)‐responsive hydrogel co‐delivers a selenium nanozyme (scavenges ROS) and a STING inhibitor to tendon stem cells. This combined action restores mitochondria–nucleus communication, alleviates cellular senescence, and rejuvenates tendon regeneration, offering a novel ...

In this work, a bioinspired all‐in‐one underwater quality evaluation metamaterial, combining sound attenuation, diffuse reflection, and mechanical robustness, is proposed based on jumping spider locomotion and human skeletal biomechanics. Meanwhile, a CNN‑driven quality evaluation framework is established for theoretically dimension‐reduced ...
