Deformation of transcatheter heart valves with mitral valve-in-valve
EuroIntervention, 2023The use of oversizing in mitral valve-in-valve (MViV) procedures can lead to non-uniform expansion of transcatheter heart valves (THV). This may have implications for THV durability. The objective of this study was to assess the extent and predictors of THV deformation in MViV procedures. We examined 33 patients who underwent MViV with SAPIEN prostheses.

Percutaneous Mitral Heart Valve Repair—MitraClip
Cardiology in Review, 2014Mitral regurgitation (MR) is the most common cardiac valvular disease in the United States. Approximately 4 million people have severe MR and roughly 250,000 new diagnoses of MR are made each year. Mitral valve surgery is the only treatment that prevents progression of heart failure and provides sustained symptomatic relief.

Mitral valve interventions in heart failure
Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2014This review describes new developments in mitral valve interventions for patients with heart failure. The review also discusses innovative therapies in the treatment of mitral regurgitation in patients with heart failure and describes novel risk factors of recurrent mitral regurgitation following repair in this population.Percutaneous strategies are ...

Mitral Valve Interventions in Structural Heart Disease
Current Cardiology Reports, 2018Analyze the current state of the art and the future perspectives of mitral interventions in clinical setting.A systematic and critical review of the new mitral percutaneous therapies and imaging technologies is the basis to adopt the right treatment for each patient according to specific valve dysfunction and clinical presentation, waiting for ...

Heart valve disease (mitral valve disease): mitral stenosis
2016Abstract The most common cause of mitral stenosis (MS) is rheumatic fever followed by degenerative MS. Echocardiography is the key method to diagnose and evaluate MS. Echocardiographic findings are closely related to aetiology. In rheumatic disease echocardiography shows thickening of leaflet tips with restricted opening caused by ...

Heart Transplantation and Consecutive Mitral Valve Replacement
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 2005A 48-year-old man was diagnosed with progressive mitral insufficiency due to fibrosis of papillary muscles and chordae tendineae, necessitating mitral valve replacement (MVR) 8 months after cardiac transplantation. Donor echocardiography and inspection of the heart at procurement were inconspicuous.

Heart valve disease (mitral valve disease): mitral regurgitation
2016Abstract Mitral regurgitation (MR) is increasingly prevalent in Europe. Echocardiography has a key role in the diagnosis and management of patients with MR. Each echocardiographic study in patients with MR should aim to characterize mitral valve morphology, identify the mechanism of valve dysfunction, quantify the severity of MR, and ...

Mitral valve replacement in the transplanted heart
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1996Because of the scarcity of donor hearts, conventional operations on heart allografts are now being performed in lieu of retransplantation. Our experience with mitral valve replacement in the orthotopically transplanted heart is presented, supporting the utility of conventional operations when indicated.
