Biomimetic Cell Membrane‐Coated Scaffolds for Enhanced Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines the development and use of cell membrane‐coated scaffolds in tissue engineering. Bioinspired phospholipid and glycocalyx coatings enhance anti‐fouling, anti‐thrombogenic, and selective molecular recognition properties. Native cell membrane coatings further support cell‐specific interactions, immune modulation, and reduced bacterial

Cirurgia valvar na infância: um novo aspecto de ação Valvular surgery in childhood: new trends

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, 1992
De janeiro de 1978 a dezembro de 1991, 148 crianças (idade igual ou menor a 15 anos) foram operadas pela primeira vez, para correção de defeitos adquiridos (doença reumática) em uma das valvas cardíacas.

Magnetically “Programming” Cobalt‐Doped Iron Oxide Nanoparticles for Localized Induction Heating: Triggering a Collective Effect of Magnetic Moment Alignment on Demand

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates enhanced induction heating in cobalt‐doped iron oxide nanoparticles via specific pre‐magnetization, induced by the pre‐alignment of magnetic moments. By correlating Co content with magnetic properties, the research highlights how magnetic pre‐programming enables localized, on‐demand debonding in composites.

Computationally efficient cardiac views projection using 3D Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yes, 2017
4D Flow is an MRI sequence which allows acquisition of 3D images of the heart. The data is typically acquired volumetrically, so it must be reformatted to generate cardiac long axis and short axis views for diagnostic interpretation.

Sex-dependent aortic valve pathology in patients with rheumatic heart disease.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
BackgroundRheumatic heart disease is an autoimmune disease caused by group A streptococci infection and frequently affects the aortic valve. Sex differences are common in the disease progression, treatment, and outcome. However, little is known about the

Modified pseudo-elastic approach for modelling cyclic response of biological heart valves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A modified pseudo-elastic approach is proposed to model cyclic response on biological heart valves. The model takes into account hysteretic effects, in combination with hyperelastic anisotropic behaviour of valve leaflets, allowing reproduction of ...

Soft Electromagnetic Actuator and Oscillator

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This work presents a groundbreaking soft electromagnetic system capable of bistable actuation and self‐regulated oscillation. Using liquid metal and silicone as a compliant conductor, the actuator enables force generation, sensing, and feedback with minimal power.

A Sleeve Alters the Pressure‐Stretch Curve of a Hyperelastic Balloon to Enable Pre‐Programmed Sequencing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This article demonstrates that encasing a hyperelastic balloon in an inextensible sleeve greatly increases its burst pressure. This simple mechanical behavior can be used to produce an asymmetric inflation‐deflation sequence for coupled balloons with different thicknesses so they could serve as a soft robot's rear and front anchors when driven from a ...

A Review of Cavitation Uses and Problems in Medicine; Invited Lecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
There are an increasing number of biological and bioengineering contexts in which cavitation is either utilized to create some desired effect or occurs as a byproduct of some other process.
