Multiscale Hybrid Surface Topographies Orchestrate Immune Regulation, Antibacterial Defense, and Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid wrinkled topographies coordinate immune, tissue, and bacterial interactions. The surfaces promote osteointegration, tune macrophage polarization, and inhibit biofilm formation, highlighting a multifunctional strategy for next‐generation implant design.

Periodontitis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: A critical appraisal

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract In spite of intensive research efforts driving spectacular advances in terms of prevention and treatments, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain a leading health burden, accounting for 32% of all deaths (World Health Organization. “Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs).” WHO, February 1, 2017, https://www.who.int/news‐room/fact‐sheets/detail ...

Patient Prosthesis Mismatch After SAVR and TAVR

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Patient-prosthesis mismatch (PPM) remains one out of many factors to be considered during decision-making for the treatment of aortic valve pathologies. The idea of adequate sizing of a prosthetic heart valve was established by Rahimtoola already in 1978.

Risk factors for paravalvular leak after transcatheter aortic valve replacement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Objective. To assess risk factors for paravalvular leak (PVL) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in a large single-center cohort, including measurement of aortic valve calcification using a reproducible method. Methods.

Replacement of pulmonary artery trunk in sheep using tubular valved heterograft in non-aldehydic preservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
INTRODUCTION: The cardiac bioprostheses are related to thromboembolic events, infectious and degenerative diseases. Wear is mainly attributed to the denaturation of collagen. Glutaraldehyde, the predominant method of preservation of bioprostheses, favors

Aortic valve replacement in sheep with a novel trileaflet mechanical heart valve prosthesis without anticoagulationCentral MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Open, 2021
Background: Even after decades of intensive research, an ideal heart valve prosthesis remains elusive. Shortcomings of conventional devices include reduced durability of bioprostheses and the thrombogenicity of mechanical substitutes, necessitating ...

A Versatile Engineering Platform for the Fabrication of Prosthetic Venous Valves Using Electrospinning

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Percutaneous prosthetic venous valves are fabricated by embedding stents in an electrospun matrix that extends luminally to form leaflets. The design shields leaflets from hyperplastic cells, isolates struts from blood contact, and avoids discrete anchoring points.
