Hypoplastic Left Ventricle: Hypoplastic Left Heart Complex
World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, 2022Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) without intrinsic valvar stenosis or atresia is synonymous with the term hypoplastic left heart complex (HLHC) and is defined as a cardiac malformation at the milder end of the spectrum of HLHS with normally aligned great arteries without a common atrioventricular junction, characterized by underdevelopment of ...

Engineering Models of the Heart Left Ventricle
ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering, 2022Despite capturing the imagination of scientists for decades, the goal of creating an artificial heart for transplantation proved to be significantly more challenging than initially anticipated. Toward this goal, recent ground-breaking studies demonstrate the development of functional left ventricular (LV) models.

Calcium fluxes in frog heart ventricles
Pflgers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1969Calcium fluxes in frog heart ventricles are determined both during quiescence and during periods of activity. The two main results: (a) calcium influx is much increased by activity; (b) a net release of calcium from the cells occurs immediately after activity, in parallel with, and probably related to, the decline in tension of the downward “staircase”.

Heart transplant for the failing ischaemic ventricle
Cardiovascular Surgery, 1996Clinical application of heart transplantation goes beyond 28 years' experience. Ischaemic heart diseases remain, with idiopathic cardiomyopathies, the main indications for cardiac transplant. A combination of haemodynamic, contractile and viability measurements may be useful to choose between transplant and coronary revascularization for the failing ...

Differentiating Athlete’s Heart from Left Ventricle Cardiomyopathies
Journal of Cardiovascular Translational Research, 2020Imaging techniques have allowed knowing the structural adaptative changes observed in the hearts of highly trained athletes. Athletes can develop very marked structural changes and the need may rise for a differential diagnosis with real cardiomyopathy.
