Three-dimensional-printed heart model can determine univentricular repair strategy in borderline double-outlet right ventricle

open access: yesEgyptian Pediatric Association Gazette, 2023
Background As double-outlet right ventricle has a wide pathophysiology spectrum, its comprehensive treatment strategy is determined based on relevant factors, such as the location and size of the ventricular septal defect, ventricular volume, and ...

A neonate with ‘amphibian heart’: A rare combination of complex congenital heart diseases

open access: yesIHJ Cardiovascular Case Reports, 2021
Persistent truncus arteriosus is a rare congenital malformation of the heart. It arises from the ventricular cavity through a common ventriculo-arterial junction and is usually associated with doubly committed ventricular septal defect.

A piece of hammer in the right ventricle of the heart

open access: yesBMJ Case Reports, 2009
A 29-year-old male was referred to the surgery department with face injury after being hit with a small hammer fragment at work. Upon admission, he was slightly bleeding from the lacerated wound (size of 1×1 cm) in the maxillofacial region. Radiograph of the skull detected a small dense fragment in the region of injury (fig 1) and the patient was ...

Single-Ventricle Physiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Single-ventricle physiology occurs in patients with hypoplastic ventricular heart defects, either on the right or left, who have undergone stepwise palliation surgeries ending with the Fontan procedure.

Influence of metabolism modifiers of cyclic nucleotides on contractility of right ventricle of rat heart with intact and removed endocardial endothelium [PDF]

open access: yesSrpski Arhiv za Celokupno Lekarstvo, 2010
Introduction. Endocardial endothelium, a natural biological barrier between circulating blood in heart ventricle and cells, creates a complex yet finely tuned balance of interactions with the immediate environment. Objective. We investigated the roles

Galectin-3, advanced glycated end-products serum levels, endothelial function and cardiac hemo¬dynamics in post infarction heart failure patients with reduced and preserved ejection fraction.

open access: yesMedičnì Perspektivi, 2018
Epidemiological studies have reported that the rate of signs and symptoms of heart failure after myocardial infarction is approximately 25%. In addition, approximately 40% of myocardial infarctions are accompanied by left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

HYDATID CYST OF THE LEFT VENTRICLE OF THE HEART

open access: yesIndian Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2003
Hydatid disease of the heart is rare. We report a case of hydatid cyst of left ventricle in a forty year old lady where the diagnosis was made intra-operatively. The transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography showed a mixed echogenic mass arising from the left ventricle. The diagnosis of hydatid cyst was confirmed by the demonstration of scolex

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
