Calcium fluxes in frog heart ventricles
Pflgers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1969Calcium fluxes in frog heart ventricles are determined both during quiescence and during periods of activity. The two main results: (a) calcium influx is much increased by activity; (b) a net release of calcium from the cells occurs immediately after activity, in parallel with, and probably related to, the decline in tension of the downward “staircase”.

The Development and Structure of the Ventricles in the Human Heart
Pediatric Cardiology, 2009Over the past decade, much has been learned concerning the origin and development of the ventricles. However, most, if not all, of the new information has come from study of the mouse heart. Most of this information has yet to be assimilated by those who study ventricular function or diagnose congenitally malformed hearts.

On the Regional Metabolism of Beef Heart Ventricles
Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1973AbstractThe concentrations of some oligoelements (iron, copper, zinc) and electrolytes (calcium, magnesium, potassium) and the activity of the succinate‐cytochrome c reductase system were determined in various regions of the ventricles of beef heart. In the subepicardial layers of the ventricles and in the upper part of the septum a higher content of ...

Myocardial fiber architecture of the human heart ventricles
The Anatomical Record, 1982AbstractThe ventricular fiber architecture has been studied anatomically and histologically in 25 human hearts. Special attention has been paid to the form of insertion of the myocardial fibers and to the existence or nonexistence of an independent system of fibers for each ventricle.

Heart transplant for the failing ischaemic ventricle
Cardiovascular Surgery, 1996Clinical application of heart transplantation goes beyond 28 years' experience. Ischaemic heart diseases remain, with idiopathic cardiomyopathies, the main indications for cardiac transplant. A combination of haemodynamic, contractile and viability measurements may be useful to choose between transplant and coronary revascularization for the failing ...
