Interoception as a function of hypnotizability during rest and a heartbeat counting task
AbstractThe hypnotizability‐related differences in morpho‐functional characteristics of the insula could at least partially account for the differences in interoceptive accuracy (IA) observed between high and low hypnotizable individuals (highs, lows).

Interoceptive accuracy (IAc), assessed using the heartbeat counting task (HCT), increased after a heartbeat perception training (HBPT) and a post-learning stressor (i.e., the socially-evaluated cold pressor test; SECPT), suggesting facilitation of interoceptive perceptual learning after stress.

In a recently published article, Zamariola et al. (2018) listed four problems of interoceptive accuracy (IAcc) scores as measured with Schandry's heartbeat counting task. In this comment, we clarify that IAcc scores are ratio variables, the analyses of which can result in misleading interpretations and incorrect conclusions.
