Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

The thermal structure of small and shallow Arctic Fennoscandian lakes
A continuous three-year field study, focusing on the thermal regime and the heat budget of twelve shallow Arctic lakes in northwest Finland, was conducted between 2019 and 2022.

Physical limnology of Italian lakes. 1. Relationship between morphometry and heat content
The influence of morphometry on maximum and minimum heat content and on pluriannual heat budgets of 31 Italian lakes is analysed. The energy parameters are highly correlated with the morphometric parameters through power regressions.

This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

Seasonal heat budget of the Mediterranean Sea [PDF]
We calculate the monthly components of the Mediterranean Sea heat budget, namely the net shortwave, net longwave, latent, sensible heat fluxes, and heat storage change, for years 1984–2000. The radiative components of the seasonal heat budget are derived by a radiation transfer model, while in most other studies bulk formulae are used.

Liquid Metal Microrobots for Magnetically Guided Transvascular Navigation
Liquid metal‐based microrobots combine magnetic steering, intrinsic X‐ray visibility and softness, to navigate blood vessels even against flow. Under clinically relevant magnetic fields, liquid metal microrobots roll along vessel walls, cross endothelial barriers, and accumulate in target tissues.

Multidecadal shifts of the northern and southern edges of the western Pacific warm pool
The western Pacific warm pool (WPWP) plays a pivotal role in shaping global climate. Using observational datasets, we uncover significant multidecadal shifts in the northern and southern edges of the WPWP. Heat budget analysis based on century-long ocean

Heat budget of the central American seas

The diurnal heat budget of the thermosphere [PDF]
Detailed numerical calculations of thermospheric heat sources and sinks are presented and their relative importance is discussed in reference to the energy balance phenomena of the neutral atmosphere. It is shown that the thermal energy available from the absorption in the Schumann-Runge continuum leading to photodissociation of O2 is by far the ...
