In normal (nontolerant) cells, CD14 is crucial for both LPS uptake and LPS signaling. In LPS‐tolerant cells, in which LPS‐induced TNF‐α and IFN‐β production is suppressed, there is a dramatic increase in surface CD14 expression. The overexpressed CD14 in LPS‐tolerant cells is responsible for the enhanced LPS uptake without inducing pro‐inflammatory ...

Numerical modelling of heat transfer in a tube furnace for steel wire annealing
In order to relieve stresses from cold drawing and to regain ductility, steel wires are annealed in furnaces under prolonged exposure to an appropriate temperature termed as ‘soaking’.

In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Heat transfer properties of porous materials and insulants [PDF]
Buildings are complex thermally-dynamic structures serving aesthetic as well as, utilitarian functions. It is essential that careful planning is undertaken if buildings are to be energy efficient and cheap to run throughout their-expected life-spans ...

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

Heat gains in buildings ‐ Limit conditions for calculating energy consumption
The results of analysis presented in the paper are related to the certification of energy performance in buildings using calculation methods, when the real energy consumption of the building is not analyzed. Energy consumption for cooling is not examined.

A Generalized Effectiveness-NTU Based Variable Geometry Microchannel Heat Exchanger Model
Microchannel heat exchangers (MCHXs) are now widely used in the HVAC&R industry. Similar to tube-fin heat exchangers used mainly in the indoor units, the innovative variable geometry microchannel heat exchanger will further reduce its compact size and ...

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
