Harnessing energy extracted from heat engines to charge quantum batteries [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We explore the performance of three- and two-stroke heat engines with a qutrit working substance in charging two-level quantum batteries. We first classify the heat engines into two groups depending on their working methods. The first type of heat engine, the sequential engine, evolves through three distinct strokes, viz., heat, work, and cold strokes.

Quantum heat engine with coupled superconducting resonators. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2017
We propose a quantum heat engine composed of two superconducting transmission line resonators interacting with each other via an optomechanical-like coupling. One resonator is periodically excited by a thermal pump.

Energetics of a simple microscopic heat engine

open access: yes, 2005
We model a microscopic heat engine as a particle hopping on a one-dimensional lattice in a periodic sawtooth potential, with or without load, assisted by the thermal kicks it gets from alternately placed hot and cold thermal baths.

Evaluating the use of diagnostic CT with flattening filter free beams for palliative radiotherapy: Dosimetric impact of scanner calibration variability

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Palliative radiotherapy comprises a significant portion of the radiation treatment workload. Volumetric‐modulated arc therapy (VMAT) improves dose conformity and, in conjunction with flattening filter free (FFF) delivery, can decrease treatment times, both of which are desirable in a population with a high probability of retreatment ...

Heat engine in the three-dimensional spacetime [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
We define a kind of heat engine via three-dimensional charged BTZ black holes. This case is quite subtle and needs to be more careful. The heat flow along the isochores does not equal to zero since the specific heat CV ≠ 0 and this point completely ...

Optimal quantum interference thermoelectric heat engine with edge states

open access: yes, 2017
We show theoretically that a thermoelectric heat engine, operating exclusively due to quantum-mechanical interference, can reach optimal linear-response performance.

A Python package for fast GPU‐based proton pencil beam dose calculation

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Open‐source GPU‐based Monte Carlo (MC) proton dose calculation algorithms provide high speed and unparalleled accuracy but can be complex to integrate with new applications and remain slower than GPU‐based pencil beam (PB) methods, which sacrifice some physical accuracy for sub‐second plan calculation.

Performance of discrete heat engines and heat pumps in finite time [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The performance in finite time of a discrete heat engine with internal friction is analyzed. The working fluid of the engine is composed of an ensemble of noninteracting two level systems.

An investigation into the feasibility and efficacy of stereotactic radiosurgery for 1–3 cm single brain lesions on the ring‐mounted Halcyon LINAC

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose An evaluation of the accuracy, safety, and efficiency of the Halcyon ring delivery system (RDS) for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) treatment to relatively small (1–3 cm) brain lesions. Methods After completing the extensive in‐house quality assurance checks including Winston–Lutz test and independent dose verification via MD Anderson ...
