Mechanical Autonomous Stochastic Heat Engine [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2016
Stochastic heat engines are devices that generate work from random thermal motion using a small number of highly fluctuating degrees of freedom. Proposals for such devices have existed for more than a century and include the Maxwell demon and the Feynman ratchet.

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

The effect of combustion type on exhaust emissions and thermal efficiency at partial load operating condition in heavy duty diesel engines

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2020
In heavy duty diesel engines, reductions of exhaust emissions and improvement in thermal efficiency have been strongly required from a view point of the prevention of air pollution and global warming.

Meta‐analysis fails to show any correlation between protein abundance and ubiquitination changes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed over 50 published proteomics datasets to explore the relationship between protein levels and ubiquitination changes across multiple experimental conditions and biological systems. Although ubiquitination is often associated with protein degradation, our analysis shows that changes in ubiquitination do not globally correlate with changes in ...

COOLING OF MARINE DIESEL ENGINE INTAKE AIR BY EJECTOR CHILLER WITH BUSTER HEAT PUMP

open access: yesАвіаційно-космічна техніка та технологія, 2017
Cooling of intake air for the main engine of transport ship by ejector chiller utilizing the heat of exhaust gases has been analyzed. The necessity to increase a potential of the heat recovered during increased heat loads upon engine intake air cooling ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

HEAT EXCHANGE BETWEEN ENGINE BLOCK-CRANKCASE AND AIR FLOWS IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT

open access: yesНаука и техника, 2008
A calculation technique is offered to determine convective heat exchange from a block-crankcase of a diesel engine. This technique makes it possible to get more accurate value of a remainder term of heat balance.

Irreversible Brownian Heat Engine [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Physics, 2017
We model a Brownian heat engine as a Brownian particle that hops in a periodic ratchet potential where the ratchet potential is coupled with a linearly decreasing background temperature. It is shown that the efficiency of such Brownian heat engine is far from Carnot efficiency even at quaistatic limit.
