The Thermodynamics of Heat Engines [PDF]
THIS is a very good specimen of that sort of book which is an amplification of the lecture notes of a professor who has carefully prepared problems for students. We may not always like the way in which he introduces the subject to his pupils, and we may say that it is unphilosophical and even cryptic, and sometimes too brilliant, but such comments are ...

A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

Quantum point contacts as heat engines [PDF]
The efficiency of macroscopic heat engines is restricted by the second law of thermodynamics. They can reach at most the efficiency of a Carnot engine. In contrast, heat currents in mesoscopic heat engines show fluctuations.

Parametric optimization and heat transfer analysis of a dual loop ORC (organic Rankine cycle) system for CNG engine waste heat recovery [PDF]
In this study, a dual loop ORC (organic Rankine cycle) system is adopted to recover exhaust energy, waste heat from the coolant system, and intercooler heat rejection of a six-cylinder CNG (compressed natural gas) engine. The thermodynamic, heat transfer,

Turbocharged Diesel Engine Power Production Enhancement: Proposing a Novel Thermal-Driven Supercharging System based on Kalina Cycle [PDF]
In this paper, a novel thermal driven supercharging system for downsizing of a turbocharged diesel engine is proposed. Furthermore, Kalina cycle has been used as waste heat recovery system to run the mounted supercharging system. The waste heat of air in

Adaptive Quantum Heat Engines [PDF]
For heat engines working between two heat baths, functionality is often conditioned on a set of fixed constraints such as given internal structure of the engine and given temperatures for the baths. It is, however, important to devise heat engines which can function adaptively, in particular when the engine is a quantum system and the baths are subject

Quantum-dot heat engines with irreversible heat transfer
We study an endoreversible quantum heat engine in which the heat transfer between the baths is mediated by two qubits. Each qubit acts as an energy filter which allows for the conversion of heat into work.

Holographic heat engine with momentum relaxation [PDF]
We investigate the heat engine defined via black hole with momentum relaxation, which is introduced by massless axion fields. We first study the extended thermodynamical properties of the black hole and then apply it to define a heat engine. Then, we analyze how the momentum relaxation affects the efficiency of the heat engine in the limit of high ...
