Changing ice and changing light: trends in solar heat input to the upper Arctic ocean from 1988 to 2014

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology, 2020
The Arctic sea-ice cover has undergone a significant decline in recent decades. The melt season is starting earlier, ice is thinner and seasonal ice dominates. Here we examine the effects of these changes on the solar heat input to the upper ocean in ice-

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

EVALUATION OF CORRELATIONS FOR THE PREDICTION OF HEAT TRANSFER IN A HEAT PIPE FOR SOLAR COOLING APPLICATIONS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper describes the theoretical-experimental study on the heat transfer inside a wickless heat pipe to be used in solar collectors for solar cooling systems. When opportunely developed, solar cooling, that is the production of cold out of solar heat,

Modeled sensitivity of upper thermocline properties to tropical cyclone winds and possible feedbacks on the Hadley circulation

open access: yes, 2010
The sensitivity of upper thermocline properties, and global climate, to tropical cyclone (TC) winds is examined using global ocean and atmosphere general circulation models.

Development of Heat Input Estimation Technique for Simulation of Shell Forming by Line-Heating

open access: yesComputer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, 2007
A new hypothesis regarding heat transmission during line heating is proposed. It states that the distribution of the temperature of the gas adjacent to the plate, TG, and the overall local heat transfer coefficient, α, depend only on the distance from the torch. An identification technique for TG and α is developed.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.
