Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Utilization of heat accumulation in control of cyclic systems
Heat exchangers often have a form of systems with heat-transporting medium circulating in enclosed loop. Imperfect heat transfer leads to its return back to the heating unit in the form of disturbance.

The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

Turbine cooling and heat transfer modelling for gas turbine performance simulation [PDF]
The successful design of cooling systems for gas turbine engines is a key factor to feasibility of new projects, as the trend for increasing turbine entry temperatures implies requirements for more sophisticated cooling methods.

EVALUATION OF A HEATING SYSTEM WITH A HEAT PUMP ACCORDING TO THE MODE OF INPUT DATA
The paper is focused on evaluating a heating system with an air source heat pump using the bin method. The main goal of the paper is to find the difference between three modes of input outside air temperature data in the calculation. Outside air temperatures are used in three modes, an hour based calculation, monthly frequencies and annual frequencies ...
