Heat input properties of hollow cathode arc as a welding heat source
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2005In order to clarify whether a hollow cathode arc (HCA) can be used as a welding heat source in space, investigations into the fundamental characteristics of HCA were experimentally performed under low pressure conditions. The HCA method enables an arc discharge to ignite and maintain under low pressure conditions; in contrast, low pressure conditions ...

Using Input Estimation to Estimate Heat Source in Nonlinear Heat Conduction Problem
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2007The nonlinear heat conduction problem will become more complicated when the thermal conductivity is a quadratic temperature function and the volumetric heat capacity is a linear temperature function. In this paper, the input estimation algorithm, including the extended Kalman filter and the weighted recursive least-squares estimator , is proposed to ...

Simplified dynamic model for heat input and output of heat storing stoves
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2005A simplified method to describe the dynamical heat output from heat storing stoves for small houses with a single or several successive firing batches is presented. Both measurements in a stove and theoretical and experimental studies of the combustion of single wood logs can be applied to study the heat input from the batch firing to the furnace walls.

In process heat input control in arc welding
Science and Technology of Welding and Joining, 1998An algorithm for in process optimum heat input control of arc welding is discussed, in which an analytical model of heat conduction is used to evaluate the temperature field during welding and the convex programming method is used in the optimisation of the heat input.

Minimum heat input optimal entry into Mars atmosphere
20th Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 1995The present paper presents a study of the optimal bidimensional entry into Mars atmosphere of a lifting vehicle with minimum heating. The variational problem is formulated as an izoperimetric problem [ I ] , the imposed horizontal distance having a major signification in determination of the landing point which it avoids dust storm zones.

Low Heat Input Welding for Thin Steel Fabrication
SNAME Maritime Convention, 2005As thinner members are used in marine construction, the use of conventional joining techniques result in significant angular and buckling distortion due to the inherent high heat input with these processes. Several low heat input alternatives, including laser beam, gas metal arc, and hybrid laser-arc welding are explored.

Research of Heat Input in Friction Stir Welding
Materials Science Forum, 2019Nowadays the most perspective, high-tech and productive process is friction stir welding. The most important part of this technology is to determine the temperature of the material in the stir zone. This parameter is easily counted by the amount of the heat input, put in the welding zone.
